Decent acting, enough twists and turns to the plot ....their lives seems so tragic, always with the perception of opulence and materialism projected to friends, and neighbors. Sad commentary on materialism in America actually. The twist is this is not a standard fare materialism movie, it is a corporate backed family ....everyone is a salesman/woman...Behaviors and spending habits of the family, lead to wannabees spending money, and the corporation tracking the town's spending habits on specific items they are indirectly hawking. Kind of a innovative..approach to salesmanship....plausible that this approach MAY...be used in reality...in specific upper class communities, new trends set, marketing at the extreme. Makes you wonder if this really happens!!
Well, this was another Blu-Ray that I picked up cheap on eBay. I figured I could watch it, and then either sell it on or trade it towards another Blu. Silly me, this is the THIRD movie this week that I have watched that I have decided to keep because I liked it so much (City Island and The Ghost Writer were the other two if you care) Basically a perfect family (The Joneses) move into a neighborhood and everyone loves them. Why? Because they have the latest gadgets that everyone wants, they are friendly, good looking and all round wonderful people. Except they are not a real family, they are a "unit" made up of a mother, father, son and daughter. Their job - to make everyone want the products they own (ie keeping up with The Joneses) Of course the "perfect" family on the outside is not that in reality. The husband is falling for the wife, the daughter is a sex crazed teen, the son is a closet homosexual and the wife is only has eyes for promotion. You could call this a very dark comedy, but it is more of an interesting drama, with an unusual concept. Probably not for everyone, but I certainly enjoyed it. David Duchovny and Demi Moore were both really good in their respective roles of the parents. I enjoyed this a lot more than I expected to and I could definitely watch it again in a couple of yearsRead full review
David Duchovny and Demi Moore are the picture perfect, happy couple with two kids (Amber Heard and Ben Hollingsworth) and seemingly everything that everyone would ever want. They just moved into their new house and they are happy to show everyone in town just how lucky they are to have all the possessions that anyone could ever want. But things are not as they seem. The movie is all about the excesses that people possess and what companies will do to get those people to purchase those possessions. "He who dies with the most toys, wins". Keeping up with the joneses is just that, everyone want to own what they have. This movie was very well written and the acting was very good. Demi Moore and David Duchovny have a bit of chemistry that seems to come out in the movie. The Joneses is a good movie to watch with your special someone and perhaps think about all the things you possess and ask yourself, is this enough?Read full review
Liked the movie so much when I rented it from Netflix that I bought a copy for my collection, and to share with friends.
