This is an adaptation of a play that comes off very well as a movie. The two stars, Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau, play their roles to perfection. The supporting players, John Fiedler, Herb Edelman, Larry Haines, David Sheiner, Carole Shelley and Monica Evans all had memorable lines in the script. What was interesting was that my kids recognized the women's voices from Walt Disney's Robin Hood (Ms. Shelley as Lady Cluck and Ms. Evans as Maid Marian), as well as John Fiedler's Piglet voice from Winnie the Pooh. Also interesting was some of the expressions and idioms the women used from their native England. Expressions such as "baches" for bachelor's, the "lift" for elevator, "solicitor" for lawyer, "telly" for television, and of course, "nature's own" for what we sometimes call our "birthday suit". An excellent movie, which led to an equally enjoyable television series starring Tony Randall and Jack Klugman. In fact, my teenage daughter enjoyed the movie so much that she's curious about how much of it was adapted into the TV series. What's funny too is that everybody has their favorite lines or scenes. My sister liked the part when Felix made the noises to clear his sinuses and when he cried "My back! Oh my back!" after Murray and the others broke down the door. My wife particularly enjoyed Oscar's "Mureeeeeee!" after Murray barked "I'm sorry, I'll KILL myself, okay!" after Felix arrived at the apartment. There are many other lines and scenes we enjoyed, too numerous to mention. Another reason we thoroughly enjoyed "The Odd Couple" and happily recommend it for purchase.Read full review
I guess it depends on who is watching a movie, but I love this movie. It's a bit dry at times, but the interaction between Walter Matthew and Jack Lemmon is always engaging and the chemistry between the two makes their movies very appealing. I felt all the actors made this a fun movie.

I have always been a fan of Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau - I saw this movie at the theater as a child when it first came out. I wanted it to go with my other movies that also have these two (2) very funny men in them. I would highly recommend seeing this movie - Then you will see why the T V series of the same name was so successful, IF, you chose the right actors to play the lead roles. Louis Spadaro/Alabama
Loved this movie. Two recently divorced men try to live together in a New York apartment. One is a compulsive, hypochondriac and the other a thoughtless slob, which can only spell hilarious comedy. Jack Lemon & Walter Mathieu, need I say more.

What a tremendous box set. With extras on every DVD, four of them, it is most unusual. First the picture and sound are glorified as to make this really an extra. Although this TV show was edited less blatently than others on re-runs, it is incredible to have the full shows which have not seen the light of day since they were broadcast. The design, material, and extras on this set is just amazing!! I ordered this, as I hear that Paramount is coming out with another "Odd Couple" first season, but I was afraid the extras would not be as good as on this edition. Especially the Jerry Belson commentaries, since he died about three months ago. If Time-Life continues to put all four seasons out, I will buy from them. Super, terrific, and just a bit BETTER than you remember, since all of the scenes that were shortened, or gone altogether, are here for the enjoyment of all. Hundreds of other people have given this a 4.9 out of 5 star rating: http://www.buzzillions.com/prd-83990-the-odd-couple-the-complete-first-season-reviews/Read full review
