Featuring an All-Star cast of characters starring Macaulay Culkin,Ed Begley, Jr, Christopher Lloyd, Patrick Stewart, Whoopi Goldberg, Frank Welker, and Leonard Nimoy. The Pagemaster is a wonderful film about a cowardly boy (Macaulay Culkin) who keeps himself locked in fear through accident statistics, preventing him from enjoying life. While on an errand for his father, he enters a library to escape a storm only to be transformed into an animated illustration by the Pagemaster. He has to work through obstacles from classic books to return to real life. My kids loved this movie when it was released in 1994, they watched it a million times, and they still love it!
This is a good movie for kids between 6-11 years of age. It would be great for older kids too if it used more computer animation. It's a slightly older film, so it uses cartoon animation to shift from reality into fantasy. Today's older kids don't appreciate that anymore. I got it for my 13 yr old. He liked it to watch once, but my 7 and 9 year old can't get enough. It might be a little scary at parts for 5 or younger. It's a clean film.
My 6-yr granddaughter watched this movie via cable's OnDemand. This movie, although mostly animated, is extremely educational regarding the classic novels like Moby Dick, Dr Jeckyl & Mr Hyde. When the movie was taken off of OnDemand, she still wished to watch it again. Although still too young to read these classics on her own, her interest is now sufficient enough that she will soon. At a time when reading is on the decline, I highly recommend this movie.
bought it for my son. It works ok but the picture quality is not good enough though.
