Vans is an American brand mainly known for their shoes. Vans shoes are mostly considered skateboarding shoes with distinct flat, rubber soles for maximum contact and stability when on a skateboard. However, skateboarders are not the only people who buy and wear Vans shoes. The shoes’ classic and timeless style has attracted many others to wear them as casual footwear. The Vans brand has also made a name sponsoring many events, mainly related to skateboarding, cycling or other sports. The biggest sponsorship for an event by Vans is the Vans Warped Tour, a rock music and skateboarding festival. Due to the size of the festival, making it one of the largest festivals in the rock and pop punk scene, Vans has integrated itself into the scene and made itself a quintessential fashion choice in the community.

The history of Vans starts back in the year 1966 when Paul and Jim Van Doren opened a shoe selling business in Anaheim, California. On their first day of opening, they sold 12 pairs of shoes and the company grew from there. Over time, Vans introduced new shoe designs to their collection, all of them still based on the flat rubber soles of the original designs. As the shoes were marketed for skateboarders from the get go, Vans updated their designs for the comfort of skateboarders. Innovations of the Vans shoe designs include padded collars that went above the ankles for extra skateboard protection.

Vans shoes come in a handful of basic designs. The classic Vans shoe design being the flat rubber soled sneaker with the padded collar called Era. Other Vans shoes include the SK8-Hi and Slip Ons. Vans shoes come in a rainbow of colours and designs printed on them. They can come in solid colours and can have the iconic Vans Sidestripe integrated into the design. Vans has also made collaborations with celebrities and popular cartoon characters to create unique prints on their range of shoe designs.

Besides shoes, Vans also offers other products. Such products include t-shirts, hoodies, backpacks and hats. Their products would often have their logo and the slogan “Off The Wall” printed on the shoe so everyone can easily recognise it.
