Plays new games at medium to high settings on high resolutions with little to no lag. Requires a PSU with a powerful 12v rail for the card to function. AMD's website has a list of qualified Power Supplies that will do the job. I opted for the Cooler Master GX650w. Plays World of Warcraft and Street Fighter IV on the highest settings, smoothly. Plays Call of Duty: Black Ops and Bulletstorm on medium settings, only lagging for a couple of seconds on intense scenarios, it then adjusts and continues to play smoothly. Readers, keep in mind my PC is pretty outdated, having only a Dual Core Celeron processor, only 2 GB of DDR2 RAM, and only PCI-E 1.0. On a system with PCI-E 2.0 and a more powerful processor it would function a lot better. It is also Crossfire compatible, which is a great option considering this card is currently at a very good price. The Catalyst Control Center software that comes with the graphics driver features an overclocking utility for both the GPU clock and the Memory clock. It can also Auto-Tune the card for optimized performance, as it takes into consideration your current system setup. It also lets you control fan speed manually. It also shows temperature, and load %. Would highly recommend this card to anyone looking to upgrade to play newer games, without breaking the bank. Card runs silently and cools efficiently.Read full review
Pros: Good performance! (15.6K 3d Mark 06 straight out of the box Low power and heat Not too big! Cons: Nothing really, This card Really shines as an option for someone looking to upgrade for example from a lower end 4xxx series card. I would bet it will be faster then a single 4850, but a 4870 and a 4890 will be about as fast or faster. On Nvida's side I would think hard and read alot if you at least have a GTX 260, If you have any of those mentioned it might be better to either step up to at least a 5830 or preferably a 5850. If money is a consideration (It certainly is for me!) then I might suggest waiting a little while for Nvidia's new mainstream Cards. Note I think Mainstream is under $200 bucks. Other Thoughts: Overclocking this thing is a real eye opener, I was able to max both the sliders on this card to 960 core 1445 mem. This was using ATI's overdrive. The 3dmark score went to around 16.2K. This on a MSI 890GXM with a 955 Phenom II x4 BE like I was talking about earlier. I haven't OC'd the system in any other way but the Video card. The funny part is the memory didn't seem to really do anything to the score past 1300 or so. Makes me wonder if the clock speed of the core at that point becomes the bottle neck. I haven't run alot of benchmarks or anything. No need to for me, this is a budget system that is playing wow at max settings on a 24.6" 1080p monitor (Everything maxed except shadows at 80%/ x2 AA at 1920x1080, I don't think I have seen the fps drop below 65 so I might turn x4 on). I just wanted to see what it would do.Read full review
Instead of spending around $400 for a 5870, I went ahead and spent a quarter of that on a 5770 and find it amazing! I have no problem setting all my graphics on full settings games that are included: Company of Heroes, Left 4 Dead 1 & 2, Team Fortress 2, Star Craft 2 Beta (be sure to cap your fps at 60 in the beta, important), Assassins Creed 2 and more. Having said that, I temporarily stuck my new 5770 in an Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 @ 2.66GHz with 2gb of DDR2 ram. Ran everything perfectly, I just can't imagine what it will do once I get a quad core with 4gb of DDR ram in the mail.. Love the double lifetime warranty, can not go wrong with it!
Pros: Both gpu work like champs! I tried to OC them while in crossfire mode it dont work like that. Had to simply disable crossfire mode and plug into each one after determining the max clock then going back into crossfire mode. I also noticed they idle at normal clock speed until needed, add some stress and watch the graph rise to the occasion. What a beautiful scene. Installed on a ASROCK 880g extreme mb in a CoolerMaster Haf full tower case so they stay at low temps even after hours of Crisis! They compliment my Phenom II x2 555 3.2gz unlocked to B55 x4 oced to 4.1gz(idle temp 19c air cooled). What more can I say? Cons: Wish I had 2 more of them for quad crossfire :( With even more gpus coming out this will do me for awhile.
This is a fantastic card for entry/mid level gpu. I have 2 of these running in CrossfireX and they are amazing together. Only bad thing is with the DisplayPort, you will need to have a monitor that has a DisplayPort input or you'll need to purchase an Active DisplayPort adapter, which retails for around $100 or so. You can still run a dual monitor setup via the DVI/DVI or DVI/HDMI setup. Three wont work until you've gotten the adapter or a DisplayPort monitor. Overall tho, the card is very nice compliment to my Asus Crosshair IV Formula board. Highly recommended for those not wanting to spend upwards of $200 or more on a high end gpu.
