These are actually Hungarian army. They're a great shape and the screw cap is a solid all aluminium construction. The bottles are clearly used and have a few dents and flats to prove it, but they are of really quite a heavy gauge aluminium, making them strong but not too heavy. I don't know what the paint finish is, but it's surprisingly tough; making me suspect it may be a polyester coating or something similar. On removing the screw cap, the bottle smelt a little musty inside, but I'll fill it with water and bicarbonate of soda, which will sort that out. I think the best thing about these bottles and the reason I bought one is they can be disguised as a canteen from a much earlier period. I intend to cover it in thick leather and make it look like a small costrell. I'll probably modify the cap to have a wooden outer.Read full review
