I have been wanting a "proper" Macro lens for years and had always made do with a Raynox screw on lens which did work well but the Raynox is only around 40mm diameter and most of my DSLR lenses have 70mm+ filter threads so not and didn't let in much light. I recently decided to buy a mint condition Canon 5D Mk2 full frame DSLR and many of my lenses were designed for crop sensor EFs DSLRS like my trusty Canon 600D and wouldn't work on the 5D Mk2 so needed lenses for full frame. I did the usual by Googling "Canon EF Macro lenses" and came up with some beauties like the 100mm EF L and they look brilliant but my budget was quite a bit lower than the minimum of £600+ so decided to check out alternative lenses and found some Sigma/Tokina and Tamron lenses again most of them were ££££££ until I found a mint Tamron 90mm f2.8 EF fit and after double checking on review sites I decided to go for it at a quarter of the price of the the other brands. Well I have to say out of all my lenses some of which are very expensive the little Tamron is soooooooooo sharp! the colours are lovely and it is basically a brand new unused and boxed bargain, I will have great fun exploring all the features on the 5D Mk2 and the Tamron 90mm will probably be lkept attached as its such a great lens. If you find one cheap on Ebay BUY IT you won't be disappointed .Read full review

This is one lens that all shooters should have in their camera bag. It's not called the 'portrait/macro' for nothing. The image quality (IQ) is superb and produces buttery smooth bokeh, beautiful colour rendition and excellent sharpness. Macro lenses by design have a slower auto focus (AF) speed than standard zoom lenses as macro shooting is normally done in manual focus (MF) and in AF for portraiture. You'll wonder why you didn't buy this lens years ago and for those who own it will testify to its capabilities and it's one if the best lenses you'll ever own and is one lens that all shooters should own. The results will speak for themself and I can't recommend this lens highly enough. Just go and get one and be happy!

Very good quality of the optics, takes sharp images even if the autofocus can be a bit slow and noisy! Good for macro, especially if manual focus is used. Some chromatic aberration with ho aperture, but several great value for money!

One of the best Makro lenses on the market, sharp images and great blurred backgrounds with a price that won't break the bank.

This lens seems to have everything that I wanted when replacing my old manual focus Tamron 90mm f2.5 lens. It gives true macro (1:1)and is very well designed for use. The manual focusing ring is not a sort of vestigial organ as it is on many other AF lenses. It is not a feature that is added on but designed in such a way that no one can or would ever actually want to use it. The lens even has a manual aperture ring (with a lock button). Because the Macro ratio is so high, the amount of travel in the focus is very great and so the lens is fitted with a limiter which can be set to only allow travel throughout the distance range (0.45 m - inf)or the macro range (below 0.45m), regardless of whether it is on MF or AF. The control to switch from MF to AF is unusual in that the focus ring moves bickwards and forwards on the barrel and a marker shows which mode it is in. It remains to be seen whether this attracts dust/dirt and whether after prolongued use it remains as positive as it is when new. The lens looks and feels very nice and so far after limited usage the results it has turned in seem to be as good as I was hoping for. Roll on my summer holidays when I hope that the dragonflies of France will take a severe photographic beating. BollinghorseRead full review
