I saw this camera in an in depth review on the web and it was compared so favorably to the Canon G10 that they called it the pocket G10 at the time as the go to choice for picture quality on par with the G10. Basically, the reviewer said and showed by example images, side by side, that the images from this camera were as good or better than the JPEGs out of the G10, PLUS you could put this one in your pocket. It became an overnight classic, commanding premium prices after store shelves were emptied and Canon stopped making them. While it does not shoot raw images, its JPG images are breathtaking and exceptional. This, like the Powershot Pro1, is one of those cameras Canon made where they got it all put together. Since this camera, Canon has been kind of all over the place with its point and shoots with the exception of its S90 and new S95 RAW and HD capable models. This one is is keeper. I have my well worn original and I bought this as a backup for when the original ultimately bites the dust. Understand that I shoot with big Canon DSLRs (5DII,7D 1DIV) so I know what I am comparing to. This one is carried around all the time no matter what I am doing (almost...) or where I am, even when loaded with other heavier gear.People think your taking snapshots when you may be taking gallery quality images. Get one before they are all snapped up in the secondary market. Some in good shape are sellling for more than NEW so hunt the bargains down and push BUY. You won't be disappointed. You can set the custom colors, contrast, saturation and exposure to really tweak every detail an dcustomize th ecamera to your likkign and then jsut shoot away. Great, fast focus, good low light performance means you don't hav eto twiddle. Once you set it up, you can concentrate on getting the shot beofre it gets away. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED and backed up with my bucks.Read full review
After seeing a video ad about this camera, I decided to buy it. I'm a huge Canon fan. It was an used camera bought by someone else. However, I am very pleased with it. I loved the compact design. The buttons were easy to use. Battery recharges quickly. The battery usage lasts a long time after recharging it is impressive for me. The picture quality is excellent. The downside is night shots aren't that great as most compact digital cameras are. Also, disappointing that the macro shots are blurry. Overall, this is an excellent compact digital camera. And I highly recommend this to those interested in purchasing a Canon camera.
SD870 was my dream camera when it first came out and I like it very much that I can't get rid of it. Now its life is very close to an end so I'm looking for a replacement. I'd love to get SD870 again because no replacement to its excellence, but I decided to get its beautiful successor SD880. The reason behind it is that SD880 has no reported discrepancy on its screen. My SD870 ends because of the big burnt out pixel on the LCD screen, which does grow in time to a point that I don't even know what my settings are and what the battery level is. After all the preliminary test, SD880 is as good as SD870, so I'm satisfied. There are lots of technical data out there, no need to say more, but how often you see an old model powershot can retain its value? In 2011 a brand new SD870 or SD880 is more expensive than when it came out back in '07 and '08? This tells you the fact of its quality and demand.Read full review
Pros: Great pictures, 4x zoom, 10 MP, 3 in LCD, Face detection, light weight Cos: Lens closing problem, zoom in video capturing, I would call this an average camera. I've been using it for about 2 years now. It takes great pictures in daylight even when you are using zoom. I was amazed at how good the zoomed pics came out to be. It is light weight and easy to use. It has face detection technology and a lot of preset settings. The video is great as long as you don't use the zoom. Even a little bit of zoom make the video fuzzy. Also there are a lot of clicking noise when using zoom. There is also a known problem with lenses. Sometimes when you turn it on the lens get locked and you get an error message and you have to turn it off and back on. Camera battery charges quickly and last a long time. The biggest issue for me was using it to capture close-up pictures or macros. The macro pics are very blurry. I would not recommend this to people who take a lot of closeup calls. You will be disappointed. But videos and pictures in daylight or even at night are simply awesome. I probably would not recommend it to a friend.Read full review
The photo quality is impressive. video is good but the file format .MOV makes it hard to view or edit with most video software. Also, there is no optical zoom while recording video. There is digital zoom while recording video but it gets pixelated with the digital zoom. You can use the optical zoom in video mode before you record though but it is inconvienent when you are in the middle of recording and want to get closer. The creative features of the camera are nice. Overall the camera is a great point and shoot but if you were planning on doing a lot of videoing there are better options out there.
I bought this as a gift for my 11 year old granddaughter to use on her vacation. So I finally got to see the pictures she took while she was on vacation in North Carolina. The pictures looked really good. And it must have been easy to use because she figured it out for herself. I don't know if she got help with it but she is good with electronic devices. I think it was a great value because Canon has always had a good reputation in cameras. I later found out that my sister also has a Canon digital camera and is very impressed with the quality pictures it produces. When I am ready myself for another camera, I will probably go looking for a Canon. D.C.

excellent camera! fantastic wide angle lens ( 24mm!!!! ), extra long life battery (450 shots with flash!), small, light and complete!
I replaced a water damaged PowerShot SD880 IS with this exact replacement. This is one of the best small pocket-sized cameras that I have ever owned. It takes excellent pictures and the wide-angle lens is great for inside shots and outside shots of buildings when you can't ordinarily get back far enough to shoot.
Good camera excellent picture.
