Right now I am watching Red Dragon for the second time. I really only wanted to see this because I enjoyed Silence of the Lambs and Anthony Hopkins' character, Hannibal Lecter. As the movie progressed, I saw the face of Ralph Fiennes as the Red Dragon, much to my surprise. Ralph is one of my favorite actors, I find him incredibly handsome and sexy, I was overjoyed that he was in Red Dragon. This is a great movie. The plot is pretty good and keeps you in suspense. I find myself trying to figure out the crime scenes and such. Too many nights of watching Forensic Files, CSI and other shows of the genre. The blind girl was a nice reprieve of the usual model type female so often cast in victim roles. I found her very believeable and genuine. I thought that Ralph's character was going to kill her. To see him feel some sort of love and compassion for her was astounding even though he was fighting his inner demons. Ralph makes a superb mentally unstable/psychotic/serial killer individual, with his cunning actions, devilish grin and piercing blue eyes. He is so charming, he almost makes you fall in love with him. The scene of him lying on the bed curled in a fetal position after the "sex scene" shows him vulnerable and almost childlike. Again, the acting was superb and on point. When I saw that Chinese character carved into the tree trunk, I immediately knew it as the Dragon symbol, from Mahjongg :) I give 5 stars!Read full review
PLOT: Prequil~ Hannibal the Cannibal is behind bars and his "expertise" is need to help find a new serial Killer~ The "TOOTH FAIRY".... EXCELLENT movie~ best once since Silence of the Lambs~ Anthony Hopkins is back as Hannibal the Cannibal ~ Will Graham the FBI agent who nearly died but helped capture Hannibal is pulled out of retirement to help find a NEW serial Killer named the "TOOTH FAIRY" who leaves "odd TEETH marks" on his victims~ killing two entire families and leaving no usable clues Graham turns to Lecter (Hopkins) to help in deciphering the mind of a new serial killer. Along the way Philip Seymour Hoffman is the obnoxious "rag reporter" for the National Tattler who will do anything for a scoop on the murders. soon we see Ralph Fines as Frances Dolarhyde the mysterious man who obcesses over the drawing of the RED DRAGON drawn into the plot. Graham finally finds the "connections" between the two families and the KILLER and moves us one step closer to capture of him but even behind bars Lecter plots via newspaper adds to KILL Grahams family for revenge of his own. but it takes a CANNIBAL TO CAPTURE A "TOOTH FAIRY" and along the way the mysterious clues Lecter GIVES Graham leads him and the FBI close in the mysterious "TOOTH FAIRY". what a great plot and excellent casting here~ Edward Norton is Will Graham who was nearly killed by Lecter but needs his help~ Hopkins is back as Lecter and is as clever as he is sinister. Ralph Fines who never disappoints has us scared every step of the way.and on the side we see bizarre yet "facinating" hero worship between THE TOOTH FAIRY~ AND LECTER~ ~ THE REAL SCENE STEALER HERE IS HOFFMAN AS THE NATION TATTLER very dislikable reporter who gets his own in the end. I GIVE IT 10 OUT OF 10 FOR EXCELLENT CAST, FACINATING PLOT, plenty of twists and turns~ you get more out of watching it twice. I did not think Thomas Harris could make one as good as Silence of the Lambs but it is close~ very close~ ALSO CHECK OUT MANHUNTER an early version of this same MOVIE with a different cast~ also very good~ and remember this TOOTH FAIRY WILL "BITE YOU". The story to me starts out slow, but the more you watch, the more interested you get. The manipulation and the reason for actions on the part of all the stars was awesome. The final end was surprising and yet heartfelt pain. I actually cried for the girl that killed him in the end. Anthony Hopkins was made for this character and plays it expertly.

I am a Former law Enforcement Officer and to see movies where they go in depth in regards to "Catching the Bad Guys" by using Forensics and case studies and most inportant Behavioral Science the study of the Criminal Mind is absolutely Great and this movie Red Dragon just likes its predessor The Original Movie "Manhunter" starring the Actor who played in CSI(TV). The Red Dragon is actually the beginning of the Hannibal Lector Series. Intense, Action and one of those movies that lets you sitting on the edge of the seat. with a surprising Ending. A must See Joe Benitez
If you like Thriller Movies, this is a must have. Anthony Hopkins as always portrays his character without flaw. Edward Norton is an underrated Actor who deserves much more credit than he receives. He portrayed his Character splendidly. (previous character - William Peterson in Manhunter, did a fine job, however; Edward Norton was more Intense and more in control in acting his part. Movies Manhunter and Red Dragon tells the Same Story, merely Different Actors/Actresses.. Well worth one's time and money to view/compare each.) Hannibal Collection movies is one of my Favorite Thrillers. Yes, I would recommend this movie.
