It is a jewel, it's not a lens! (kidding) The resolution capabilities of the Samyang 14mm 2.8 are way way beyond anything that you've ever seen on your pictures, unless you have tried those that match this one, and cost 2200 USD. That & its price made it a MUST for me (mainly into landscape photography) Manual focus: is that a problem? Actually, it's surprisingly easy. And being a 14mm lens, correct focus lies wide on the ring. But most of the times you don't even need to "find" focus, while shooting landscapes. Just have it on Infinity. Barrel distortion: I'm even taking panoramas with it, and hand-stiching them in Photoshop, with very good results. There are lens correction profiles for Lightroom (somewhere on the Net) but they are only for full frame - not for crop sensor. The profile for full frame makes shooting architecture one more option for this lens, as it turns out perfect. The hood: I cut a ring of black cardboard to "complete" the hood - then I can handhold Grad ND filters in front of the lens without light spilling into it. This lens is like a children's toy that allows place for imagination. It does not do everything for you !! I like that.Read full review
I have a Nikon mount version, use it with Canon 5D mk II with an adapter. Notice that Nikon version has mechanism to keep the lens wide open all the time (it closes only when you take a picture). Canon version doesn't have it. Make sure you have some kind focus conformations (e.g. af chip). My bad focusing resulted in neglecting this gem for half a year. If you can get it in focus, it's really sharp. It works really well with a Speedlite, pointed directly with a diffuser. Contruction quality is really good, solid chunk of glass and metal. Mustache distortion is pretty nasty and hard to correct, but unless there are a lot of straight lines, you won't even notice. This ultra wide lens is a bargain. Remember that the Canon 14mm is well over 2000 euro. I bought this lens for 1/10 of that in second hand. The only cons of this lens are nasty distortion and no AF, but I can't complain at this price. If you are a crop shooter - check out Samyang 8mm fish eye.Read full review
This is the third lens I added to my collection and by far it is the best and most amazing lens. Although it is chunky, the product is well made and does not feel flimsy, it is very robust for its price. While playing with this lens I found that it has very good picture quality and the depth of field you get here lends a real 3D effect to your photographs. The colour production is fantastic with very little abberation or distortion. The green eyed monster has started bugging my colleagues now that they've seen what this lens can do and many of them will probably purchase this as the photos really do speak for this lens, I don't have to! Thanks to Samyang we have a fabulous product at a very good price!
I bought this lens because of the very good value for money and image quality. The purpose of this purchase: interesting, beautiful landscapes and HDR just unusual for wide angle shots. I shot on the Canon 17-40 F4 Lens. I will say that Samyang 14mm F/2.8 MF UMC I liked and viewing angle and sharpness. A big plus is the price of lenses at this level. Negative side version for Canon cameras - this is not the correct focus distance scale.
So Happy With My Lens !!! It came a lot faster then it said it would! It’s sleek and easy to pick up for a beginner !! Beautiful sharp Images. Comes in Orginal box with manual and a great cloth quilted style string bag.
