The aspherical element in this Sigma DC OS HSM lens reduces the scattering of light and eliminates aberrations for a clear, bright, and crisp image. This aspherical zoom lens has a Hyper Sonic Motor that produces a virtually silent autofocus. The Optical Stabilizer in this Sigma lens offers two sensors to detect horizontal and vertical movement and compensates to minimize the effects of camera shakiness. In addition, Super Multi-Layer coating technology in the Sigma DC OS HSM lens yields photographs free of unwanted flares and ghosting.

Nice lens but firmware update on camera caused problems
I updated the firmware in my Nikon D5500, now the autofocus doesn't work. It still works with manual focus and the pictures are sharp, but it's a hassle without the autofocus. I recently learned these older Sigma lens may have issues with firmware updates on Nikon because the lens are reversed engineered, so Sigma doesn't pay Nikon for the technology to work properly sometimes with the firmware updates. Not happy about that.
