the sega cd model 1 is the classic cd console. anyone who had a model 1 when it was released will tell you they prefer the big system with the motorized tray even though its considered less reliable than the model 2. these are getting hard to find now as a lot of the trays were pushed in by hand and broken causing many people to junk these. The sega cd has a big library of games but not a whole lot of good ones. they spent too much time on fmv-based games that looked grainy and the screen was way too small as a result almost nobody wants to play these games anymore. but there are some really good games on the sega cd like android assault and robo aleste, sonic cd, sol-feace, ect. if sega had made more shooters for this system and more games like sonic cd, this would have been fierce competition to the snes. oh well.Read full review
Wanted a Sega Genesis Original Console that's what I got. Thought it was a bargain with the two controllers and the adapter and whatnot. Its really laughable how cheap the controllers were. And the adapter arrived broken because it was probably from the dollar store. Otherwise the system seems legit luckily.

I used to have this edition when I was a much younger babe, and considering the massive popularity Sonic 2 had upon release, if you're are able to get the console, let it be this one. The console itself is pretty great. Even used/loved ones are easy to clean in comparison to others, should it be not so great. That be said, be aware of corrosion on the RF shields above and beneath the motherboard, and to only blow compressed air through the board itself. Keep your nails separated, but together. Otherwise, all the plastic buttons, shells, and shields can be washed down. There are some guides online, i recommend searching there. The graphics are great for early gaming. If you have the addons, then that aspect will be improved as well. 16 bits on top of real 3D through the system's own hardware, it's quite an interesting mashup on the genesis. Keep in mind though, that at the time of release, people were expected to play on CRT monitors via RF converters and composite imaging, so some things that are pixelated strangely didn't pick up that way originally. Like the tubes in chemical plant zone, for example. As the camera moves with sonic, the tubes are slightly translucent and iridescent. Or any of the flowing water in emerald hill and aquatic ruin. As far as Sonic 2 goes, it's a good game. My favorite genesis game for 20+ years It's better than Sonic 1 now that the programmers had a better picture of what they wanted the games to be, and the start of co-op. But it's not perfect and very flawed. *SPOILERS AHEAD* The last few levels reaaaally pick up in difficulty and length with an autoscroller in between. Metropolis Zone is the only one with 3 acts, then the rest are just 1; Sky Chase, Wing Fortress, Death Egg. Metropolis zone itself can be considered as an entire hazard itself. Bad enemy placement, too many crushing hazards, lava everywhere... the only saving grace is that the music is fitting for the stage and isn't especially annoying. SC will cut you a break, but WF can be irritating, particularly the platforming. Then there's the Death Egg... Oh Boy. There are no rings in the DE, at any point. So if you die, then... because there are no saves, only continues... you have to start at EH again. :( DE is just 1 miniboss (silver/Mecha sonic) and then Eggman fight, and both are frusturating. You have to be ""precise"". The Death Egg robot takes waaay too many hits and you can easily mess up and die. On a whole, I think that the game is fun to play, up until WF anyway, and if you're not satisfied with sonic, there's always sports and Street Fighter.Read full review

This system is absolutely perfect. The one we purchased was used and works as if it were brand new. 2 AAA Batteries are needed for the wireless controller and would recommend that the game console be somewhat close to where you're playing from.

The refurbished system works very well and comes with everything to plug and play. It’s great if you want to introduce someone to simple gaming, or if you are into the great retro games from gaming a golden era. My only complaint is that the 3rd party controllers are quite cheap. The D pad fell off of one while playing. I may look to find some original genesis controllers later.
