purchased after drowning nokia 5140, tough phone owned for about 6 yrs, yet still only needed charging about every 5 days. The jcb cost £50, and is almost indestructible, but you could buy about 4 cheap nokias for this price, keep a good record of your contacts and other stored data, and come out even, as the facilities are about the same. It has a torch, an fm radio, appointments/calendar, a couple of games and that's about it. It's performance is disappointing compared to the nokia. Firstly I notice I lose reception in areas I never lost it before. Secondly, the operating system is disappointing, even after a month to get used to the new OS. examples are a)recognising numbers, texts (in uk) come in as +44 etc, whereas calls come in on 07, so whichever way you you store the number, the phone wont recognise the caller/texter. I guess you could store both, I haven't tried that. It is annoying. b) the dictionary/language is ezy abc, which is different to T9 predictive. This makes it a pain if you like to use punctuation or change case in a word, but if you prefer repetetive pressing you can set the phone to that. c) when composing a message the nokia OS had handy tricks like when you go past the end of the message you go back to the start, not so on the jcb. d) There are quite a few little wrinkles on the nok OS that I miss, with nothing new to compensate. e) There is no recording sound option, which I found useful, although the cheapest nok's don't have this. I used to have a recorded fart as my alert for incoming texts, and conjuring up one at will is not a skill I have been able to develop. f) The appointments system is not well thought out. g) the screen is readable in sunlight, something I could never get right on the 5140. h) the tones on offer are primitive. i) I haven't used the radio much, it looks ok, and the 5140 lost it a few years before, basically refusing to recognise the phones had been taken out. j) you can set the nav key to some options but the top one has to be the torch, and irritatingly if you use a keypad lock, you have to unlock first to turn the torch back off. I haven't tested the waterproofing, but the seals look adequate, the standard is IP67. 6 for dust ingress , 7 for water , ie 1metre for 30 mins. There is another waterproof phone I was considering, Fortis A88, with more facilities I might have bought but I couldn't find a review, and nothing came up under £50 while i was looking. You can find the instruction manual for the jcb tradesman on line at www.jcbphone.co.uk All i n all I would rather have the 5140 back, with a lanyard to hold it round my neck and keep it in my shirt pocketRead full review
builders phone, prob ok for on site, belongs to my husband, he will just use as a spare, feels it is slighty a step back in time. expected it to be more in the modern type world in this day of age. Money value im not sure. battery life supposed to be good though. he hasnt used it long enough to understand all the good or possibly reasons why he likes or dislikes. Thank you for speedy delivery.
Definately no complaints about this little wonder. The phone has a pretty hard life, as have its predecessors. It will be interesting to see how long it lasts. No bells and whistles, not necessary for our requirements. Rings Loud as hell which we need over the noise of machinery. Only thing is the screen is fairly small but this in no way impacts on the convenience and toughness of the JCB. At just over $100 Aus$, this is a bargain and I would not hesitate to by another.
It is the world first flosting phone. That's all about it. It has no camera, no mp3 playback support etc, although some features are included, e.g. Bluetooth and midi on ringtone. But I was already tired with smartphones, so decided to take a phone that can just do calling and texting. Nothing more. The battery life is OK, the review said it wasn', but I found that 7-10 days with medium amount of calling is enough for me. Sometimes it switches off, but maybe it is because I don' turn on keylock.
the phone is very easy to use and very handy for work as i work in a very dusty place. i bought the phone because my other ones just broke from the dust because it got in the speaker,it compares brill to others because it says it is water prof and dust free as it is a sealed unit.
Good looking phone, tough durable and easy to use. However the message tones are absolute rubbish and I can't find a way to download more.
