There were many FED camera variations, since it was made from the late 1930s until 1990 when the USSR collapsed. The FED 5 is the last and most useful series. Some have an adustable diopter to compensate for your eyesight, like the "Fed 5 B" model. The more common "Fed 5C" does NOT so do your homework as to which you like. The standard lens for this camera is the superb "Industar 61 L/N". This used rare earth lens elements of mild radioactivity. Don't be scared it's very low and not likely to penetrate the camera's heavy metal shell. It's a legendary lens. IF you get a well made one. One thing to note about ALL Fed Cameras is that the shutter must be advanced before changing the speeds. If you don't the mechanism could be damaged! The later L/N lenses are superb for color, not just black and white. Grab one of these and step back to photography from the 1950s-60s. Really fun camera and the 5 series takes a normal hotshoe flash.Read full review

I purchased Fed 5B because of the value compared to the price, a Leica was way too expensive. The Fed 5 is a nice poor mans Leica, you can even use Leica M39 lenses. Fed 5 is a rangefinder camera, it is easy to adjust distance to the subject. The viewfinder is also nice and have diopter setting for spectacle users, like me. This alone is more worth than the price paid. It is a fully mechanical camera witout light meter. Sunny 16 comes handy or an external meter. Russian lenses are very sharp, I love them. Well taken care of these russian cameras are simple mechanics lasting "forever". Easy to repair too. I get nice pictures for the price of a lunch, and will hereby recommend the camera.
The Fed factory in Russia has been cranking out cameras for more years than Vladimir Putin has hairs on his head, and despite what you may hear about "Monday quality" cameras and the variability of quality in the build of Soviet era Russian cameras, these folks know how to build simple and strong. Tired of pixel-peeping? Want to get back to your film roots in an affordable way, or want to start into the interesting world of rangefinder cameras? Buy a Fed camera. Solid, strong, and simple. So what if you have to figure GOST to ISO? So what if the selenium cells will give out in 25 years and never work again? For the price, you cannot beat these cameras. Plus, the range and quality of Leica-copy lenses match the range and quality of Fed cameras: wide, deep, and affordable. There are some surprising gems out there--don't let their non-Japanese roots scare you off.Read full review

reliable, simple camera with excellent lanthanum-coated lens, which gives excellent picture quality. lanthanum-coated lens is a masterpiece. but the shutter curtain and lubricant drying down over time. so you need to buy a camera just frome qualified technicians. on ebay I found only one repairman alex-ukr-alex who sells real working cameras. cameras that I bought from other sellers have been absolutely useless. Good preventive maintenance will ensure a very long trouble-free operation for years to come

Fed 5 is a great camera, easy to use, convenient to use it. System is very complex mechanism, and the other version does not require batteries for measuring light. I do not want to take the time I think I will stick with shooting the viewfinder may be a bit small to me.
Great stuff, great condition

I wanted a camera that was totally manual without batteries. Also I wanted a camera with a solid construction plus a 35mm film camera. This camera meets all my needs and the seller described this product accurately.
It's very different to find the focus with this camera but I enjoy it very much. I cant wait to develop my first film!
