Heavy, loud, and slow, just like an WWII Soviet era T54 tank. This camera is for very deliberate picture taking with skills. No run/gun or spray/pray. Watched some YouTube videos before trying to use it, but still confused about the proper sequences. Wasted a roll of film because I didn't understand what the film was doing, and just kept winding the film since there is no stopping mechanism like a 35mm (doh). There is no rewind on 120 film. Not the easiest to focus since the TTL viewfinder does not have diopter correction (need to wear regular glasses). Don't bother with the using TTL meter. Aside from hard to tell whether the lights are on, it doesn't give accurate reading compared to even a light meter app on your phone. According to the webs, this may be due to the need for old mercury batteries that are not made anymore, i.e., replacement batteries don't have the same voltage/current curve. There is no auto shut off in the meter, so I drained the battery in 2 hours because I forgot to shut it off (another doh).Read full review

I used this camera several times. It is really inexpensive 6x6 frame. I agree with the problems of the film movement. There is a need to watch out the window, what would have been the correct distance between the frames, and this is a drawback of this camera. But there is also an attractive side! This is a great line of inexpensive and interesting lens! You can see the photos that I made last winter another Kiev 88. I apologize for not clean the scanner. To say that this is a bad camera, I would not. I also can not praise it, because it is not OK. So I put the rating 3. I was not scared weight, I have a Hasselblad 500 EL / M, it is also quite a heavy camera, it is best to use a tripod. Thank you for your attention. ;-)

I've owned several of these over the years and decided to get back in to medium format by buying another one. I love the quality of the images produced by this system and it's lenses. timeless images every time. Only complaint I've ever had and still do is that the gear that advances the film back never quite lines up correctly and it's necessary to use the peek window on the film back to make sure your film has advanced, if you don't you will have overlap. otherwise for the price this is a fun and relatively inexpensive way to get some really unique 6x6 film shots.

Excellent analog of Rolleiflex, good working - but for advanced user.

When I got the camera the mirror was twisted it did not work at all so sadly I do not know what its like to use. Its not as heavy as a mamiya Rb67 but it is heavier than the Hassleblad cm models.
A super medium format camera for practically nothing. Basically, you get an older Hasselblad 1000f (with added automatic diaphragm and a hot shoe) for a fraction of what a comparable Hassy system would cost. There is a superb collection of *excellent* lenses for this system (most Soviet glass is re-badged pre-war Zeiss). With a spotty quality control, however, there are some turds out there... as with most FSU gear. Don't get discouraged if you run into one, replace and you'll end up with a superb, capable MF system on a budget.
