Extraordinarily true sailing story of bravery, hardship and disaster.
This is a vital book for all yachties. It narrates the disastrous round the world non-stop solo race of 1968 / 69 - before the era of GPS and of moblie phones. Also safety rules were unknown (or considered unnecessary)while the sailers themselves (all British except one) considered themselves invincible. The book focuses not only on the participants but also on the extraordinary oceans encountered - especially the "Roaring Forties" above Antarctica.
