If you've already learnt the basics of how to draft a basic pattern block, then this book enables you to modify it to any design you choose - they're all there. It includes sections on how to take measurements and draft the basic pattern set which enables you to make patterns that will fit correctly. Although all the info is there on how to do it, it would be a bit tricky if you've never done it before. There is some info on how to correct poor fit for jackets and pants, which are the hardest to get right, but some additional knowledge form other texts is better.
You have to be prepared to work in inches. To translate to metric would be a pain.
I haven't yet drafted the basic patterns to my measurements, but the method looks good. I have used several in the past and some are better than others.
The international edition is said to be exactly the same but it differs in a couple of key areas.
The original has the new lines on the draft in red which makes it easy to see what to do. The international is all black so you have to understand the text to know what to do. Still works.
The index is useless. it is computer generated with key words. For example, 'dart' may have 50 page references without any further breakdown of type of dart. I had originally borrowed an American edition so I photocopied the index, but the page numbers are not the same in both. However the contents list at front is good (if you add page numbers to it) and the detailed chapter indexes at start of each chapter are excellent.
Am I happy with the international edition? Yes, given it was about a quarter of the price of the American.
