Martin Luther and His Lies
This is a horrible book, but despite that, it is worth reading. If you want to know about one of the sources of anti-semitism in Europe then this may be a place to start. It is shameful that a man like Luther, who did much for the world in some ways, fell prey to the most ugly of hatred in maligning the Jewish people. I am a Christian who hates antisemitism, but I wanted to know what Luther had said. William Shirer made the claims quoted below. Whether he is right or not I don't know, but he does have a good point.
William L. Shirer wrote
“It is difficult to understand the behaviour of most German Protestants in the first Nazi years unless one is aware of two things: their history and the influence of Martin Luther. The great founder of Protestantism was both a passionate anti-Semite and a ferocious believer in absolute obedience to political authority. He wanted Germany rid of the Jews. Luther's advice was literally followed four centuries later by Hitler, Goering and Himmler.” (The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich William L. Shirer Page 209)
I recommend this book as it gives a definitive source of the evil of antisemitism. It is good value for the price.
