As soon as she graduated from high school, Pamela Des Barres headed for the Sunset Strip, where she knocked on rock stars' backstage doors and immersed herself in the drugs, danger, and ecstasy of the freewheeling 1960s. Over the next 10 years she had affairs with Mick Jagger, Jimmy Page, Keith Moon, Waylon Jennings, Chris Hillman, Noel Redding, and Jim Morrison, among others. She travelled with Led Zeppelin; lived in sin with Don Johnson; turned down a date with Elvis Presley; and was close friends with Robert Plant, Gram Parsons, Ray Davies, and Frank Zappa. Titillating, fun read!
I admit to only skimming through most of this tell-all book, preferring to sniff-out and focus on the parts where Miss Pamela writes about her encounters & intimate interludes w/Chris Hillman, of whom I've been a big fan throughout most of his music career reincarnations, i.e. The Byrds, Flying Burrito Bros, Manassas, Desert Rose Band, etc. She certainly did not disappoint as he is mentioned many times throughout "I'm With The Band," much to my personal (and envious!) delight. Although some of the verbiage is a bit immature, these were mostly contained in the passages where Des Barres extracted directly from her diary entries as a teenager, when she started crushing on and chasing Hillman, as well as many other famous rock stars (Mick Jagger, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, Keith Moon, etc., and even a young, unknown Don Johnson).
