Many people write books on Revelation, focusing on drama and future events. Kraybill looks at the book through the eyes of a scholar and churchman, seeing John's focus within its First Century setting. He understands and analyzes the many symbols, and responds with application that sees John as a politically aware, religiously committed Christian who understood the impact of the Roman empire on first century Christians. HIs book draws excellent conclusions about the impact of empire (both first century and 21st century) on the church. This is an excellent, very readable treatment that will open windows, expand understanding, and call us to be responsible citizens living under the influence (control?) of empire in our own day.
