It says "WIFI ENABLED" but the fine print says "as long as you connect it via ethernet to your own wifi router". In other words it is like ANY NAS or other device you can already access on your LAN by whatever means you currently use. I am pretty sure that is why they have changed their packaging on them since this one (which I bought 2nd hand though unused) and it needlessly has the HDD inside another enclosure which has to be placed into the receiver with a SATA interface which has the ethernet and power ports, but does NOT allow for placing ANY SATA HDD there. I suppose that will sell more Seagate drives, but there are much better choices around, and the configuration is mechanically fragile since it HAS to stand upright.

Since Seagate shutdown the seagateshare dot com website, a new GOFLEX HOME device is nearly impossible to setup without having deep technical/linux knowledge. You cannot just plug in the device and go as it tries to contact the new defunct domain. Avoid this item as the cost is quite high and the most you might get out of it is a slow 2 TB hard drive that you have to crack the case on to use.

I bought the GoFlex system to back up my desktop and my wife's net-book. I did not realize a USB hub could be plugged into the GoFlex base until I was reading the manual. My wife has had problems printing from her net-book so, I plan on attaching a hub then a printer to the GoFlex base and hopefully that stops her printing problems. The software that comes with the GoFlex system is very easy to setup and use. I have it set to backup both systems when; they first come on, when they are shut down, and a complete backup every 2 days. So far so good.
although new...this product is 2010 built.. the dock won't recognize the drive and after a TON of time w/seagate ,have determined this product not compatible w/windows 10.

I wanted to be able to access it for multiple system of which I have a few. I also tinker a lot with my systems and I don't have to worry about loosing data. I like that it is nerwork attache device and therefore dont neet to leave anothe computer on to share the device. I am not crazy about the browser interface to enable access but id is convenient for external access. Sharing docs and picures does not work so well. It is good if you have a limited budget. If more money was available I would wit a devie that does not use the web interface.
These items are amazing! I have this connected directly to my network which works great for all my devices! (Laptops,Desktops,Ipads,Android) There are many options, including setting up your own FTP directly from the HD. I also use it to stream my music and movies directly from the network to my PC, and my Playstation 3! I could not ask for a better storage device! I am debating getting two just incase!
Works great fast It was a good buy

The most convoluted user interface I've ever seen. No way to just configure it as a shared drive with the normal terms used for file or drive sharing. The incomprehensivable web interface that seems to be split between the drive and seagate's website is a disaster waiting to happen (ie: sharing all your private files with the world and no even knowing it). I think the most use (if any) I'll get out of this is exercising my hammer with it so that it can't inflict its pain upon anyone else.
Cant help but like it...however, needing extra app to upload pictures from your phone needs to be eliminated if possible.

This product by Seagate has reached it end-of-life. And it’s not supported by Seagate any more for remote access. It does work on Windows 10 well.
