Best mp3 player ever... for music, audiobooks, language lessons and podcasts

I have tried other brands and other Sansa models, including the newer ones. The Clip Zip is far and above the best. Loading it is as easy as connecting it to my computer and dragging my mp3 files into the correct folder. It works great with a 16 GB micro SD card for a total of 24 GB of space. The battery lasts for hours of listening. I especially like the image display. It gives me a quick and easy way to know what album the song is from without having to read the text. I also like the different playback options. I can play or shuffle all songs from an artist, album, or genre. I put my audiobooks in the Audiobooks folder, and they show up correctly in the Audiobooks menu. Same for podcasts and language lessons (I put them in the Podcast folder). It always saves my place in the audiobook, and remembers what podcast or lesson file I'm on and where I am in the file, even if I switch between audiobook, podcast and music.

Doesn't Allow Playlists On External Memory

Good: Sound quality Ok: Battery life Bad: Can't have playlists on external memory Through the purchase of device and research, I have discovered that ALL SanDisk Sansa Clip Zips do not allow playlists on the external memory (microSD card). Unless one wants to search for music via artist, album, or genre only, this mp3 player is more or less a glorified shuffle device. One can have playlists on the internal memory, but the music must be stored there and not on the external memory. With 8GB (actually less) of internal memory, those interested in transferring multiple playlists from Windows Media Player, itunes, Media Monkey, Media Go, etc., will be severely disappointed. I tried Rockbox, but was still unable to have playlists on the external memory; plus, the tiny print did me no favors. Uninstalling Rockbox and reloading the original Sansa firmware proved difficult and time-consuming. Not for me. My old SanDisk Sansa Fuze had almost everything: voice recording (12+Hours), FM Radio with ability to record radio broadcast, album art, sound setting equalizer, organization by artist, album, or genre, and of course, the ability to have playlists on the external memory. The only limiting factor with the Sansa Fuze, was the external memory capacity limit of 16 GB. With my expanding music library, my beloved Sansa Fuze needed to be replaced. With an external memory capacity limit up to 32 GB, I thought the Clip Zip would be the perfect replacement, but sadly it is not. I have decided to use my phone and Google Play Music as that allows the utilization of playlists. So much for mp3 players.

  • No need for an overpriced fruit-named product

Great for working out - both weightlifting and running. The FM radio is an extra nice feature. This is a super small and unobtrusive device, and I can clip it anywhere I want instead of having to strap it to my arm or risk having it fall out of my pocket. Overall it's much, much better than that famous fruit-named company's products, especially for price and the microSD expandability.

  • it was the best !

Clip+ and Clip Zip are 13 years old ,but were arguably the best portable music players made ,better even than the very expensive iPod . Could play FLAC,wav, all the lossless music formats Clips were tiny ,but had high quality DAC,and amp ,ability to take a micro SD card ...and could be Rockboxed ....a superb enthusiasts created software which enabled extensive control of the player. It was also very inexpensive ,but my last one has only just died ,!!! Great for running

  • Lightweight, small, good features

Easy to use and recharge. Earphones are so-so. I use oem ipod earbuds and those give a good sound.

  • Good form factor, great sound, and great usability with rockbox.

The clip form factor is great for an active lifestyle. I expect it will improve the longevity of the device as well, as it is less likely to be dropped. Sound quality is great, and it runs really well with the rockbox firmware. On the con side, the screen is a bit small and hard to use when compared with other Sansa products like the e200 series or fuze+. But as far as I can tell, this is the best clip-type player that can run rockbox, so that settles it for m.

  • Too bad the new Sansa players aren't this good

In the last few years Sansa has downgraded their small players to the point where they are useless. The Clip Zip is the last of the good units. When this one dies I'll be forced to switch to the cheap $2-3 players which are far better than anything Sansa produces now.
