An older camera with a lot of years left in it.
This is easily one of the best bargains for a Sony APSC-sized sensor camera out there. It is 16 megapixels which seems low by todays standards, but keep in mind that many people are happy with 12 megapixel cameras on iPhones. The big difference is that different lenses can be used, noise suppression can be manipulated in RAW files and pixel peepers will get more detail. It is a Sony model so getting native lenses won't be a problem. Even old manual lenses from other cameras can be used with adapters. There is a zoom-to-focus button so when I use my old Zeiss knockoff Jupiter-8 lens, I can be sure that I'm getting the shot pin sharp. I like having more control over my camera than I could get with my iPhone and this is the perfect solution. Another important feature is that I can use almost any 3rd party remote shutter release with it. The NEX models before and after it didn't have that option included. NEX models that can be remotely shutter released are dependent on Sony support since it is a software-only option. The problem is as those models get older, Sony will stop supporting them and remote shutter release will stop working. Owners of those camera models won't have any other choices then. a very easy camera to us
This is my 3 rd Nex it has taken 3 types to get it right. /Started with a C 3 and then a 5000. I also use a a Alpha a 57 and this camera is equal and as good as the Nex-7 ,but with the mechanics of the a 77. Picture quality is excellent for a used camera, and the feel is just fine and to use is just as great. I have 2 e mount lens a 18-55 mm and a 55-210 lens also. With my LA_EA 2 adapter all my other Sony and Minolta lens work also. I would say that Nex-7 is excellent camera and I would recommend it for any one who is a step away from the Sony a 7 series cameras. Great introduction to Dslr
I wanted to get a dslr without paying the huge price that they usually come with. After a lot of research, I decided on this camera and so far, so good. The picture quality is great, taking shots is easy, but getting creative takes practice. only camera that can easily zoom any lens sinc it has an actual toggle to vary the digital zoom unlike having to use a menu type of option....
This is the only NEX camera from what I have seen that has a digital zoom toggle on the shutter release mechanism...This makes the camera very versatile when using with th VCL-ECF2 Fisheye auxiliary lens made specifically to fit the SEL16F28 lens...... This "n" variation of the NEX 3 is thus a real fun camera to use with that combo since you can real time change to fisheye effect using the that zoom toggle.. You can pick up both the fisheye aux lens and this 16mm lens for a good discount on the used market though both are being sold "new" by several companies.. This toggle allows you to vary the wide angle effect.... Solid little camera.
This is a nice camera. Quality build. 16 .3 mp makes a great image. Sony's easy to use navigation gives you access lots of great creative features for beginner to pro. The lens that is on this camera is awesome. My internal battery went so you have to reset the date if you want it when you take the battery out.Something you want to check after getting one of these.I need to get a flash for it. The Sony flash's you lift up works nice.The screen tilts up only to 90 degrees. Something Selfie and vlogers might want to consider?

Great little camera
This camera takes some getting used to as nearly all the settings are accessed through the menu, but it takes great photos. The main drawback is that it does not have a hotshoe, but apart from that it has all the features of its larger cousins. The dynamic range is good and the auto HDR is something that I use a lot for real estate photography. The built in flash is small but powerful for its size. It can be used as a bounce flash if you angle it up with your finger which definitely is a step up from the usual pop up flashes. I also purchased a lens converter (Sony LA-AE1) to allow me to use my A mount DSLR lenses. This adapter connects the camera to the camera and allows all functions except autofocus to work with non SONY lenses (including Minolta). The camera's focus peaking feature allows for easy manual focusing, it highlights the edges that are in focus in a solid colour of your choosing, there are three options. All in all not quite a pocketable camera unless you stick the camera in one pocket and the lens in another, but still tiny nonetheless for an APSC camera.
