I'm really happy with this, especially after the nasty experience I had with my last ereader - took three seconds to register a button press, and the screen conked out after a few months of use. But this one is really good, fast enough considering it's an old model, really good condition, nice clear screen and simple to use. All I wanted was a basic, pocketsize ereader for reading on the go without wifi, and this fits the bill perfectly!

This unit is great during the day. As it gets darker and in low light you need to have some form of light shining onto the screen. Have got approximately 300 books on it and there is still sufficient space for more. Enjoy being able to flip from one book to another without having to search around. Very convenient to carry around with you. Happy with purchase.

This one really is pocket size (but you wouldn't stick it in your jeans pocket!). Lack of a cover may bother some people, but I don't find it a problem. The support for multiple formats is a big plus (Epub, PDF, RTF, DOC). The e-ink screen is great for normal use - really clear even in bright light BUT... my PRS505 screen developed dead-pixel faults withing 6 months AND this one has a problem in high temperatures - it was 35C on the beach this summer and at that temperature, the contrast drops off to grey on white... returns to b/w when it cools down. So there are some lingering doubts over the technology. I had hoped that the PRS300 would be a bit faster than the 505 (as its a later model..) but it isn't. It can be dead slow turning pages and formatting/reformatting when you open a book or resize the font. You find yourself clicking the page-turn button as you reach 80 or 90% down the page. The Sony software for your PC is absolutely dire, but you need it (and the equally dire Adobe Digital Editions) to download DRM books. Don't use them unless/until you have to. Copy your book files on as you would to a USB stick, or better still check out the free and fabulous "calibre" e-reader software. But beware of dumping too much on or it slows it down even more. Don't bother sending in any Sony guarantee cards or registering online - that's just to get you on their marketing database. Ebay/Paypal receipts don't count when you need guarantee service from Sony, so beware. But Sony do provide a neat way into Google Books to download awesome quantities of freeware, public domain, or out of copyright books. I am (as you can tell) a convert to e-readers, but critical of dodgy technology, poor client service and ripoffs. You will find that e-books can cost more than paper books, and you can get caught out badly by DRM if you do some things wrong as I did. I now hate DRM. If I have to suffer it I expect a book to cost, say, 20% of a real book. Dream on. I see that shops are discounting the PRS300 now, so there should be some bargains to be had.Read full review
This is a fantastic purchase for anyone wanting a true on the move ereader. It has the right combination of size and portability and literally can fit in your pocket if needs be, unlike some other readers which are just too big and cumbersome. The screen size is perfect in my opinion, easy to read and big enough not to cause too frequent page turns. The page turning is also swift enough not to be annoying, taking about 1 second. Functionality is basic, but it is a simple ereader designed for reading and does the job. Books are easy to find in the library and are set out in various categories. A touch screen would have been a useful addition but takes nothing away from the reader. Battery life is excellent, lasting around a month of daily use and device takes around and hour to charge fully again. Ereader is good looking and comes with a quality holder or book cover which adds to its size but does not affect its pocketabiliy. I paid £45 for this and thought it was a bargain, considering the original retail price.Read full review
I purchased this product from Watersones following an extensive search for an e reader as a gift for my husband. It certainly does what it says on the pack although now a somewhat older model it can hold its own against the likes of its rivals such as the Kindle. It is actually able to fit into a decent size pocket and i'm sure that it will more than earn its keep in our household and i might actually now be able to persuade my husband to part with some of his extensive book collection (there was an ulterior motive behind my gift giving). I would recommend this product to all the only downside that i can see is that other family members might now put in their order for one ( our 10 year old daughter hs already dropped a few hints.)
ideal for holidays saves taking stacks of books and keeps weight down in luggage when traveling. easy to use and easy to go back to story . clear precise buttons on reader. found it hard to get dvds with books I would read only the dvds have such a huge selection but not all of them to my taste in books. will be using this holiday so I will be able to comment on how it is in the sun once I return
Old but wonderful thing. Easy to use, though I had a minor difficulty with returing the smaller shrift after i accidentally made it bigger. But overall, it's a great thing. Don't even need the newer models. Cheap, good quality same as all Sony products. Still using it. :)
easy to use and you can use it to download library books unlike a kindle which do not allow this. Long battery life will easily last a fortnight holiday. I went through 5 books while away for 2 weeks and didn't need to recharge once. fits easily into handbag or pocket
excellent value for money,i liked everything about this product it was easy to use the sreen was a good size
