Review of the Cambo SC/SC2 and Calumet 45N monorail view camera. The three camera models mentioned are essentially the same. The Cambo has a few more features such as zero detents that the Calumet lacks plus better knobs. The Cambo SC has knobs machined from aluminum, the SC2 has knurled rubber knobs and the Calumet has very cheap injection molded plastic knobs. The knobs and detents is the greatest difference between these three classic cameras. The low price of this camera can be deceptive. There is nothing wrong with them, there are simply a large number of them available. This camera has complete movements, is lightweight, rigid, rugged, well designed and will do everything more expensive cameras do. The only thing spending more money gets the purchaser is geared movements.

Cambo SC Monorail 4x5 View cameras has been for years the poor man entry camera to Studio Photography in Large Format . These cameras are built like a tank and they have all the movements available in the best cameras but none of the frills, nor the high price . These cameras extremely capable and many people prefer them even when other cameras are available to them in the studio. The availability of parts on eBay make them particularly attractive considering their low price .
I ex to do some fine work with itpect

This is pretty basic. No graduation scales or geared movements here. But this is a solid versitile camera. Parts interchange with almost all Cambo cameras. Smooth frinction focus and lots of movement in the standards. I use my to make tintypes at festivals and fairs.
