Cheapest Nikon macro lens you can get. It takes great pictures, and is reasonably easy to focus. I'm happy with mine Downsides: Only 1:2 reproduction ratio (get a PN-11 tube for 1:1), you don't get metering on cheaper Nikon DSLRs (but manual metering isn't too horrible; worst case you can take multiple pictures of the same subject with different settings and hope to get it right at least once)

Sharp as a tack, built to last; old fashioned, maybe, but can still do the job as well as, if not better than, its younger brethren - so a bit like me really. Bet you won't find today's lenses still working as good as new in 25 years time. Oh, and you don't need auto focus for macro, so save yourself a fortune and find one of these that's been well looked after. And promise you won't just use it for flowers and bumble bees! Snap. snap!!
I use this lens on a D7100 Nikon and it performs exceptionally well giving really sharp images and outstanding colour rendition. It weighs in at around half a kilo and is made of metal not plastic as are most of todays lenses. No auto features but produces top quality images. A must have prime lens for prortraits and anything else really.
