"The Rum Diary" is a 2011 movie based on the Hunter S. Thompson novel of the same name. The book and movie fit the drama category. The film was released to DVD as a single-disc set by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Johnny Depp enacts the role of the main character, with Aaron Eckhart, Michael Rispoli, Amber Heard, Richard Jenkins, and Giovanni Ribisi as costars. "The Rum Diary" follows Depp's character, Paul Kemp, as he travels to San Juan in Puerto Rico for a job. Once there, the corruption in the island town becomes apparent to Kemp, who seeks to expose it. As the drama unfolds, Kemp falls in love with another character. The plotline for the single-disc set follows Kemps movements on the island as he traverses the corruption. "The Rum Diary" is an AC-3 film set to NTSC standards. The movie is presented in widescreen in full color with Dolby surround sound and subtitles. The movie has English audio with English subtitles.

    DEPP!

    ANYTHING Depp is a treat. He is an enigma, to say the least. Wonderful re-creation of long ago rum-soaked Hemmingway-esque Puerto Rico. Based on a novel by Hunter S. Thompson. It wasn't perfect but definitely worth the time to absorb it's historical story line and Depps never disappointing performance. And the genre of clothing and cars and buildings were great and the scenery just outstanding! A FUN ride.

    Horrible movie! Two hours of my life I will never get back.

    This is s very disturbing movie. There is nothing entertaining about this debacle. Hunter Thompson demonstrates his disturbing mentality in this book and I cannot believe that Johnny Depp would waste his time and money on this piece of crap. Might be the worst movie of all time.

    Awesome movie! This movie seems to get overlooked but it is a real cinematic gem! Great writing acting cinematography and at times hilarious. You need to read the Hunter S Thompson book then watch the movie. And of course it brought together Amber & Johnny for the first time for better or for worse
