Having switched to Leicaflex around five years ago, I noticed that lens performance outstripped Nikon by a mile. Now my Leicaflex cameras had dud meters, so I used handheld metering. I’ve read quite a few positive reviews about the R8, so I bought one last month. Initially fearful of complicated operation (compared to the simplicity of the Leicaflex), I soon picked it up. It’s not complicated at all. In fact it’s very simple. Inserting the film sets the iso for the meter. Set the metering pattern you want to use on one control and the exposure mode on another - M - A - S - P. I use matrix metering and Program . Set the lens aperture to the smallest opening - 16 or 22 and wind on, focus and expose. This turns the R8 into a very sophisticated point and shoot. Film rewind is the same as the Leicaflex. I’m so impressed that I’ve bought a second body within a month. I won’t bother with motors so cannot comment on that aspect. I’ve used my Leica SF20 flash on it (set shutter speed to X and lens to F5.6 indoors and set flash on A and it does the rest. I can also use my Metz 45 CT 1 flash too as the R8 has a PC socket. Being accustomed to the Leicaflex, I don’t notice the weight of the R8. I’ve refunded my outfit to the 35 & 90mm f2 prime lenses (zooms are for amateurs). Read full review

Very good ; I like this camera very much.
