Reliable GPS that finds satellites quickly. Capable of GPS and GLONASS for added accuracy. Screen is bright and easily visible in sunlight. Buttons are easy to press, and the joystick is simple to use. Having buttons and a joystick means the GPS works in all weather, no need to worry about a wet or cold day as you would with a touch screen. Joystick does mean that it takes a bit of time to type waypoint names but there is plenty of time to spare out in the bush. Of course with no base maps or maps available you will need to take a paper map with you, but coordinates can be provided in many different formats, eg. UTM if you use a UTM topographic map.

Having owned an original Etrex 10 for some 15 years, I was keen to compare it to my new replacement. What a difference 15 years makes. Aside from having to relearn how to operate the new device, all else was fantastic. Better satellite tracking with two sets available now, easier buttons to handle and a whole new set of menus and options. Pros - simple, cheap, easy to use, accurate, reliable Cons - no maps (not even with the 'cheats' you read about - why bother anyway with a mono small screen?), no entirely intuitive screens and options (you have to play with it a little to learn what's there) I'd buy another any day and just hope my new device lasts the 15 years the last one did!

Have only used this a few times. Had the old etrex (yellow) previously. This maybe more accurate but the button on the front (cursor one) is a bad design as it protrudes out a few mm past rest of unit gets bumped whist in your pocket (and you push it in to use it). Not sure how to lock it but unit was doing all sorts of things that I did not want to do because I was accidentally pushing the button whist walking. I also have a 64s which is much bigger and more expensive that I use for work. (I bought Etrex 10 t to carry around for geotagging when taking photos as battery lasts longer and unit is smaller so I thought I would just put it on and leave it in my camera bags front pocket- out of sight) but I am now using the 64s in preference (clipped to waist). .

Fairly easy to setup and use. Battery life seems to be better than similar units I have owned in the past.
