The 1st one I got did not work at all. Then i got a replacement and this one also had trouble starting. After doing some research on this product, I got it to work. Not the best quality. It feels very, very light. Cartridge is very, very hard to insert, almost feels like you are gonna break the thing. The image quality is ok. I mean, these are old games so Im guessing we cannot complain about not getting a high definition image. Controllers: they are slow to respond. And feel also cheap. But they do their job. Overall: Do I enjoy it? Yes Does it play all the games? I dont knw Would I recomend it? Of course. Keep in mind you are playing very old games, there were no HD TVs. But you will enjoy it. Retron Game Console review
It's smaller and lighter than what I expected, but I guess I can't complain for the price. I like the controllers and it's other features. I had one game not work on it, but I think it was the game that was defective. I returned the game. I don't have that many games to play on it, so I am still a little undecided on it's reliability. The games that have worked play great and the graphics are great. I will know more in the future, when I have more experience with it, and I play more games on it. Great alternative to an original NES!
If you want to play your old NES games again without the hassle of looking for an original working NES, then the Retron 1 is for you! What I like best about this product is that it is compatible with original NES controllers and the Zapper. The bundled controllers are a little flimsy, the pin connector has a DEATH-GRIP on the cartridges, and the color and sound are a little off. Well... you get what you pay for under $20.00. It's better than nothing. It was packed well and decent enough from my point of view. You get 2 controllers and the AV Cables along with the DC Adapter. I only paid $16.77 for my Hyperkin Retron 1 Top Loader (Black Charcoal) Game Console to play the old school Nintendo NES Game Cartridges. I, only had my for a week. I must say? It performs well and does it suppose to do. The emulators with the sound chip that produces the sound quality might not sound like the original audio sound from the original Nintendo NES Console from the 80's. I think it's in Mono instead of Stereo. But who the Hell cares?! It's just something good to start off with. So have to start somewhere. I'm happy with mind so far. I pray and continue that will last a lifetime and continue to perform as it should. Everybody has a bad and good experiences with the Hyperkin Retron 1 Nintendo NES Clone or any other brand clone console brand. But like I said? It's cheap so don't expect 100% perfection from a cheaper Top Loader console. If you don't like it or not totally satisfied with it? I don't recommend it to those to expect to be the original. Just send it back and get back your full refund that paid for the product. That's my opinion. I have 1 year warranty on mind. If I have any problems with mind in the future before the 1 year warranty? I can let them know the people of Hyperkin that is? return to the old ways
used to play the nes system when my kids were growing up. now have 3 grandsons and wanted to introduce them to the games their mom played as a child. they love it and usually when they come over will start playing right away. such a great price to get to play all those nes games i never could bare to part with. have two of the old systems but they are such a pain to get to work it is not worth the effort. with this retron console we can play those games and it is not a big deal switching from game to game. with my old system if i ever got a game to work i had to stick with it and not even try to play a different game as it would take too much effort. i looked at used systems but they were much more than i wanted to spend. with this retron at under $20 it is a big win for me and my family.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Great picture after a short while of color flickering
Um... this machine is fantastic... the only thing is that it doesn't have a Nintendo NES rf port... so you have to connect it to the TV with a yellow and white RCA cable... my small analogue TV-for-gaming's RCA inputs don't work... and so after reading and researching for a bit I solved this problem by connecting the yellow and white RCA cable to the back of a used VCR's RCA input connection and then I bought a new Best Buy "rocketfish" rf male-male coaxial cable and connected one side of it to the antenna connection on one of my NES rf adapters. And connected its other end to the back of the used VCR's "VHF/UHF OUT" coaxial output. By the time I figured all of this out the flashing colors had gone away. I guess I removed and reinserted my "The Legend of Zelda" cartridge enough times throughout this journey to break the Hyperkin-NES-toploader in. I fixed the misspellings. Hope this review makes your Retron Hyperkin purchase a positive one; thanks for reading my review. :) edit: I just wanted to add that I also bought one package of Insignia RCA Plug Couplers from Best Buy... and I attached one of them to the end of the male NES rf adapter cable connection that is just laying on the carpet. After thinking about it for a while I think I discovered something cool... all of the connections on the back of a VCR, for example, are female because female connections don't seem to carry a signal like their male counterparts do. The RCA Plug Couplers are small female-female adapters and so connecting one to the end of my unused male NES rf adapter cable canceled the signal interference and so the picture on my TV doesn't mess up anymore if I accidentally touch the cable cause it is a female connection at the end now. (I couldn't find this info on the internet so now it is here; hope it helps someone! :)) last edit: I don't think it's possible to connect the NES rf adapter's "to NES" cable to a non-Nintendo-made-machine. All the ways I tried failed with much static on the line... so I did what worked for me without any problems I mentioned above. The Retron Hyperkin machine I have is well made. After the flashing colors went away it has played Zelda and Tecmo Super Bowl without any problems. Just put a RCA plug coupler on an unused "to NES" cable. Bye. :)Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

This is a cheap system and it gets the job done. The controllers aren't the best but you can use your normal NES ones for it. It is a great value and a great buy for anyone whose NES is on the fritz. Bought this because I was tired of fighting with my old first gen nes when I wanted to play my old games. Not crazy about the supplied controllers but it will accept OEM controllers so no big deal. Truly junk
So I purchased this to test some old NES games I have to sell. It truly a piece of junk. The games have to practically be jammed in. Yes, they must be lined up correctly. But even so it was practically impossible to get them in. Then I had to turn in:off/on/off/reset/off/on/reset (and other combinations to get the games to work (load). And don't get me started on how difficult it is to get your game out. This is a Peice of junk that I will never use again. I do not recommend it.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
