Good stuff, but not quite "Exact Fit."

I bought these Borgeman parts from Buy Auto Parts on eBay because they are selling it for a better price than Borgeman. Parts were delivered quickly and I began to install them right away. For me, this is for a 1957 Ford Fairlane 500. While the gear box fit to the existing holes in the frame, the angle of the spline gear back into the car was at a low angle. The steering shaft was 3/4" too low. I called Borgeman on this and they said that I would have to elongate the mounting holes. I mentioned that their paperwork stated that any modification would void the warranty. Go ahead they said, and so I did. The nose of the gear box was hitting the frame so to raise it, I had to cut about 1/2 diameter larger on the holes. Make sure you know which way to do this cutting or you will end up with a mess. Scribe an arc using the point of contact on the nose of the gear as the center then mark each hole with a line in the direction of the cut. You will also have to shim the front of the gear box so that the shaft aims for the center where it should be. I used about 3/16" shims on the front two holes. Borgeson was aware of this. If they would rotate the mounting plate slightly, this would not be necessary. I got a coupling that was supposed to fit the existing steering gear shaft. It was too small by about .025" so I had to chuck up the shaft in a lathe and cut it down to the right diameter. This was then welded onto the shaft and all worked fine from there. I also bought their Saginaw PS pump. First one came to me as a major leaker. I split the extra cost with the supplier to overnight another one to me (they covered the cost of regular shipping.) It came next day and it worked just fine. All parts work perfectly, but the install required a little creative work. Any problems I had were because of manufacturing. Buy Auto Parts was great to deal with. I spoke to Juan to get the pump replaced and he did a great job of taking care of this problem. This is likely the simplest solution to installing power steering in my car. Give it a try.

    Not happy

Be prepared to modify the frame it hits the exhaust manifold and cut your steering column off 6 inches are so the gear has a odd size coupling an extra 120.00 they could send you some fittings for the gear. Would not do this again

  • opower steering system improvement

This unit takes away the common problem associated with the original power steering system geometry and the number of leaking hose that comes with. This unit connects directly to the power steering pump which I changed due the original unit had a poor design and it leaked also too.

  • Perfect Bolt In

I am impressed with the quality and the fitment. I was able to modify my original T-bird steering column and shaft and hook up to the unit.

  • Some frame grinding required.

Put this unit on my '64 Galaxie. Had to grind the top of the frame down about 1/8" to get the proper clearance for it to fit. Bolt holes lined up just fine after the grinding.

  • Perfect fit

I'm doing a frame off resto mod to a 53 Victoria and have not completed the project. However the gearbox fit perfectly and have no reason to believe that it won't perform as advertised.

  • great product

Should come with more info for example which hole is the pressure one, how much cutting and where for make and model of the cars I order the Borgeson hose kit the hose should be 2" longer! IF YOU USE OEM STEERING COLUMN SHIFT SOME DETAILS ON HOW TO MAKE WORK WOULD BE NICE THE BOX FIT RIGHT IN JUST NEEDED TO MAKE 2" HOLE IN TOP SIDE OF FRAME BOLTED RIGHT IN AN USE THE OLD STEERING ARM PERFECT

  • Nice system with some fabrication.

Be prepared to do some fab work, with factory dual exhaust you may have to move the sector forward 3/4", with the single exhaust you may be fine. I replaced all cap screws with button head bolt for more clearance. Automatic shift linkage is doable, stick shift is tough. Maybe better with aftermarket floor shift.

  • ok

Disappointed.. didn't fit without making alterations to the vehicle. Company says "that happens sometimes"....but the product is not described as such in the postings
