Just what I was looking for. A classic retro gamer that worked right out of the box. The modern look of this 2600 goes well in its new location. We added installed a tune-up kit to future proof the system for years to come.

The Atari 2600 was the first gaming console that swept the home entertainment landscape like a hot knife through butter, and in the lifecycle of the console (1977 to 1992) several versions of the same hardware were conceived. In addition to the Atari brand, versions were manufactured for Sears Tele-Games line of devices. However in later days of the system, when companies like Nintendo and Sega were poised to dominate the struggling industry after the crash of '83, Atari introduced one more version of their beloved 2600, the 2600 Jr. When I was deciding on adding the system to my growing retro-library, I knew I wanted a stable and working system that would give me years of service. Through various groups and forums on the web, I learned that many of the older versions were susceptible to malfunction due to old capacitors and poor connections that had gotten worse over time due to corrosion or just abuse from previous owners. Not interested in the bulkier 7800 which was "almost" 100% backwards compatible with the 2600 library, I opted for the 2600 Jr, and I'm glad I made this choice. It's a small compact system, plays all the games flawlessly, puts out a great composite picture on my old Sony Trinitron and pretty easy to maintain. My model was a bit banged up but still powered on without a problem. I've since taken the rainbow metal plate off and it's just fine without it. I hope to get another backup version of the 2600 Jr to have as a spare in case something dies in this one, but considering the age and the solid state nature of this last revision I think it will be just fine for many many years to come.Read full review
Of course I’m basing my opinion on the retro aspect of it. For a console that is 30+ years old, it works like the day it was bought. The graphics are great- for 1980 era graphics! The gameplay varies depending on the game. But this system will always be a huge part of my childhood. So if your a child of the 70’s/80’s, play on!

It's not the original look, but for me I'm ok with that because it matches the 7800 in the collection. I like the looks of this better than the original style. Plays games well, and it's a 2600, what more is there to say? If you like the 2600 this is a good system as any.

My grandson is enjoying playing the games and thinks they are so much fun. He has spent quite a ot of time playing since Christmas. The game is just as I remembered it when my child was a kid

What a great system this is for playing your Atari 2600 games. While I prefer the 7800 that can play both 2600 and 7800 games, the 2600 Junior is an amazing sized device that I find myself playing each day.

The Atari 2600 junior that i received was not the one pictured. The outer case was broken in three places.Once I hooked it up it did not work at all. I did a stupid thing, I was so upset I threw it in the trash. I wish now I had tried to return it but too late now. I realize it was old and all but it was not even worth saving for parts. Very disappointed.

The Atari 2600 jr was released in 1985. The redesigned version of the 2600, which was unofficially referred to as the 2600 Jr. it featured a smaller cost-reduced design and was advertised as a budget gaming system.. The 2600 JR was sold until 1991, and the Atari 2600 was officially retired on January 1, 1992, this made it the longest produced game console at the ripe old age of 14 years old. It's also a great addition to my vintage gaming collection.
Brings back memories I love it
