About this product

Product Information

The whisper-quiet Olympus 14 mm - 42 mm lens is designed to move for the photographer, pulling back or zooming in as needed to capture that perfect picture. The 14 mm - 42 mm f/2.5-5.6 lens design creates a large variety of different shots even if the photographer never changes position. The Olympus camera lens allows the photographer to capture the flight of a butterfly as it drifts closer, or record a car speeding down the road. Though made to fit on Olympus cameras, this 14 mm - 42 mm f/2.5-5.6 lens can fit a variety of camera models. The f/3.5-5.6 aperture allows the photographer to change the amount of light that illuminates each shot to get a perfect picture every single time it's used. This lightweight, Olympus 14 mm - 42 mm lens measures a mere 1.9 inches wide and weighs just 4 oz. The lens drive is almost silent, so nothing will interrupt the photographer's focus and concentration while they work. Photographers may use the Olympus 14 mm - 42 mm lens to capture stunning landscapes from far away, but it can also be used to record brilliant portraits. Even if this Olympus camera lens is placed on the camera permanently, the photographer can still capture every kind of image. Because this lens is so well-made and so precisely crafted with three aspherical lens elements, every image the photographer takes will be beautifully clear and sharp from edge to edge.

  • The best, practical 4/3 lens

Open box or not, the Olympus 14-42 R Lens is VASTLY superior to the original Olympus 14-42 EZ that came with the camera. The new lens images are sharper, clearer and have much better color representation. The "R" has a locking system that is both protective of the lens and provides a smaller camera bag footprint. Perhaps the biggest benefit is that the new "R" lens has a manual deployment. The original "EZ" lens had an electro-mechanical deployment system that would extend and retract the lens each time the camera was switched on or off. I recall thinking, when I first purchased the camera, that this method would utilize considerable battery power, and wondered how many electro-mechanical extensions and retractions would the system tolerate before it failed. (The answer is: about 6 years worth. And, of course, the electro-mechanical deployment system failed in the middle of a trip to the Outer Hebrides.) As to the issue of battery power consumption, the new "R" lens did not affect the battery during an entire day of photography due to the manual lens deployment. The original "EZ" would have substantially drained the battery power over the same shooting day. Finally, the open box Olympus 14-42 R cost was approximately one third of the price of an Olympus 14-42 EZ ED MSC. For my purposes, the Olympus 14-42 R is the best lens available. It is practical, efficient and takes great images. A VERY good buy.

  • Nice Lense

I recently bought this lens and so far am thrilled with it. I've used it to photograph flowers, dogs and ducks on the pond. It is light and carrying the camera and lens during my morning walk doesn't wear me out like the DSLR and telephoto. Handy lens to have.

  • Surprisingly sharp for a relatively inexpensive lens.

I have 3 very costly Olympus and Leica lenses for my OM1 mkII DSLR - all of them superb. I gave my original OM1 to a friend and bought this lens for it. I really didn't expect it to perform so closely to the Pro lenses, but it did!
