I was hoping to use one or two of these to warm my oil pan during the bitter winter nights. The heater pad comes with the 110V plug disconnected. There is a reason for this - they avoid having to have any safety approvals (CSA or UL) as it is considered a "component" and not a finished electrical product. Well after connecting the provided plug I thought to test them before attempting to affix to the oil pan - just as well I did - they both continue to heat up until the rubber pad melts and burns. As you will note from the photos attached shortly after plugging in they start to smoke, then the rubber starts to bubble then it starts to burn exposing the current carrying wires. I made a movie of one self destructing to a fire which I will be sending to the Canadian Safety Association and Underwriters Laboratories. Please DO NOT try to use these on a car or anything for that matter unless you are trying to set fire to it. Read full review

This pad works best fully immersed in fluids... You need a significant heat load to not burn this heater up. I had to drop the voltage down to around 50 VAC when installed on my cars oil pan to get a good amount of heat without overheating and damaging the pad. There doesn't appear to be safety or thermal shut off. My oil pan is nice and warm after warming for 2 hours in -20C.
