My intended use of this camera is mainly macro with some landscape and portrait stuff now and then. Why did I pick this one for macro? 1: There are hundreds of quality second hand lenses in the market to be found that are cheap and ideal for macro work. No need for auto focus with macro, just need clarity, manual aperture & focus. The great thing about Pentax is the K mount has been around for a long time so that means you can find good glass that will fit, also there are plenty of adapters that fit the K mount so you are not limited to Pentax only lenses. 2: In body stabilisation, means that the lenses don’t need to be stabilised which helps keep them smaller, lighter and more affordable. For hand held macro you need this stability. 3: Articulated rear lcd screen. It’s not a touch screen but at least you can position it so you can see what you’re doing on those very low and high camera positions you often find yourself in when macro shooting. 4: Live view and focus peeking. These two things are almost indispensable for low to the ground shooting of tiny objects, you can zoom in and manually tweak the focus to perfection. 5: Weather sealed body. These cameras can remain in use in some pretty nasty weather, many of the Pentax lenses are sealed also. 6: Built in WiFi, I use the Pentax App a lot and it’s great. There are a lot of negative reviews about it in the App Store, ignore them, it works as it promises. With an auto lens you can zoom in on your phone, focus and shoot from your phone. When down low in the mud shooting long exposure you can stand back straight with a hot coffee and do it all from your phone! ;-) Negatives? I don’t see too many with this camera, you get a lot of extras built into it for the price. One thing that comes to mind is the battery life, if you are using live view a lot you will drain the battery fairly fast. If you don’t use the rear screen too much the battery lasts all day. Having said that I would budget for a second battery with this camera. If your looking for an affordable, tough, weather sealed, well optioned, value for money APSC camera then take a good look at the K-70 Oh! I almost forgot about the kit lens that came with this camera. Let’s just say it’s useable and has a useful focal range but it’s not the sharpest, The only reason I have it was the bundle kit price was almost the same as a body only price elsewhere. I would budget for a better zoom or prime lens to get the best out of the camera. Keep this in mind, it’s not always about the sensor size or megapixels in the camera. If they are all looking through bad glass then none of them will great.Read full review

I LOVE this camera - takes amazing photos and is brilliant in low light! The instructions are comprehensive and the camera itself, is easy to use. The weight is average for a compact SLR so it's easy to manage around your neck for a few hours. The only downside is the range of affordable lenses available in Australia isn't that great - my local camera store doesn't stock any and just about all on Ebay are located in Japan.

A beautiful piece of engineering. It's great to be able to use my old Pentax lenses on it, an advantage I'm sure over some of the market rivals.
