This 100th Anniversary issue (in Mono) is the best release I have heard.
Lucky for us this reissue is in mono and very high quality as well. This Lp was originally recorded simultaneously in true stereo alongside a distinct mono mix, and originally "Come Fly with Me" was released to record stores in 1958 in monaural only, a standard practice by Capitol records at the time. The label finally released the stereo version in 1961 or 62. There were sonic problems with the stereo recording due to weak tubes in the line where some parts were mic'd, and this becomes evident when strings soar or vocals peak. The Mono recording was not affected as the mic set up was independent (and more elaborate) and as such you will not hear this album sound better than a nice clean mono issue. This 2014 or 2015 issue was made very well and it is clean and clear like a MFSL pressing (at least the one I got is) and the sound is even better than my NM original gray label issue. All stereo issues including the 1980's MFSL have distortion and there is no way to eq that out. Frankly the mono recording sounds richer and beautifully balanced so its the best way to hear this fabulous album.
