NotesThe Singles Collection 1949-62 Little Jimmy Dickens Little Jimmy Dickens was one of the most distinctive personalities on the country scene during the post-war era, famous not only for his short stature from which he derived his nickname, but for the novelty country songs he became associated with and his ostentatious rhinestone-studded suits - he as one of the first country performers to adopt the style. He enjoyed a long career, and when he died in 2014 at the age of 94, he was the oldest living member of the Grand Ole Opry. This collection focuses on the first phase of his career, from his 1949 debut in the country charts through to 1962, when a return to the country Top 10 kicked off another period in the limelight as the country scene continued to evolve. It comprises most of the A and B sides of his singles for Columbia during that time, featuring all his country hits in those years, including the Top 10 successes "country Boy", "My Heart's Bouquet", "Pennies For Papa", "Take An Old Cold 'Tater", "A-Sleepin' At The Foot Of The Bed", "Hillbilly Fever", "Out Behind The Barn and "The Violet And A Rose", many of them typical of his quirky novelty style. It's a comprehensive and entertaining overview of his significant early career. This collection focuses on the first phase of his career, from his 1949 debut in the country charts through to 1962
