Time will tell...
how long it lasts. So far, so good. There is factory grease on the knife blade pivot point--it moves very easily but does not flop around loose. The stamped steel parts are plated with copper and brass, so no corrosion. The rest of the metal parts appear to be cast bronze. Everything so far is very sturdy. I have mine mounted on the behind-the-driver-seat battery of my 1969 Corvette. It's a cramped compartment so this disconnect simply hangs off the negative side terminal. There is no way to utilize the mounting hole in the center of the plastic terminal separator in my application. Here's the reason I only gave 4 out of 5 stars. Whether it's that hole or the composition of the black plastic itself, there is an awful lot of 'twist' to that plastic while tightening down both 9/16" hex head bolts. I found myself tightening and loosening both fasteners multiple times just to be sure the knife blade ended up centered in the opposing slot. Now that the mounting part is completed, I'd think it should last a good, long time. I just wish that plastic part wasn't so 'bendy.'Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

I needed something to disconnect the negative battery cable on a 1987 Chevrolet Corvette. The other products unscrewed and could be difficult to screw back together in a tight area. The Wirthco Battery Doctor battery disconnect for side mounted battery cables fit snugly and only problem encountered was the bolt holding the battery cable to the disconnect is tight against the plastic wheel well. I inserted a soft plastic cap over the bolt to prevent damage to the wheel well. The disconnect gave me some concern it would hit the underside of the hood when closed, but it clears with no problems. One of the purposes for my use is the battery goes dead as the vehicle sits for long periods, by disconnecting the negative battery cable has worked so far as not discharging the battery. The other purpose would be to disable the vehicle by opening the disconnect to make another issue a car thief would encounter to prevent the engine from starting. SAVES YOUR BATTERY
My wonderful 1996 Chevy 4x4 has developed a slow drain and kills my new Interstate battery in only a couple of days if not driven regularly. This disconnect is the perfect solution. I was disconnecting the battery anytime it needed to sit longer than a day but that became pretty tedious. Now all I have to do is pop the hood and lift the guillotine switch and problem solved. I highly recommend it item for anyone having an older vehicle and having that same slow drain problem that I encountered. Works great. Was a little difficult putting on but not because of the product but the small battery compartment behind the driver seat of a 1980 corvette.
