Buffs to a soft, natural sheen. Raw timber floorboards. Ensure the timber is well sanded and smooth. Apply before waxing. Dip a soft, lint-free cloth into the tin and scrape out a small amount. Rub into the timber with pressure in line with the grain.
It restores the authentic sheen and depth to unsealed timber.
Finding a suitable floor wax for old unsealed floorboards is, I have discovered, no easy task - until now. The floorboards I speak of had not been polished for a long time. They were fundamentally in excellent condition but were in need of some loving attention, showing signs of diminished sheen and generally looking a bit dry. Enter Gillies.
I should state here that a bit of "elbow grease" is required to enjoy the reward that this floor wax will produce, namely an appealing rich, low sheen and restoring (in my case) a deep, dark authentic appearance to the timber. You'll need to get down on your hands and knees to apply this wax with a suitable cloth. It doesn't flow out at all so effort is required to work it in but the result is so well worth it!
I found too, that despite what appears to be a small quantity (230gms), it is quite economical to use. I've covered my small room with plenty of product left over to cover the floor a number of times into the future.
I purchased Gillies primarily for my floorboards, but have used it on wooden doorsteps to restore life to them and it works very well.
This product probably won't appeal to those who want the reward with the least amount of effort, because this treatment simply doesn't flow out. It requires rubbing into the timber. But I say again, the result is worth the energy expended.
