Great action feature.
This particular anime DVD carried a very high rating which prompted my purchase. Wasn't disappointed. Definitely an R-rated series because of the heavy profanity and bloody fight sequences. Nevertheless, it's an engaging story with great character development from beginning to end. This is just a hardcore adventure tale with lots of action, sprinkled with some humor. A++++ Great Anime Series Brand New Highly Reccomned
Black Lagoon is a series following the character of Rokuro Okajima, AKA Rock who on a business trip is taken captive by a Pirate group known as Lagoon Company. After befriending the crew containing the captain (Dutch), a tech expert (Benny), and a blood-thirsty woman (Revy) he actually joins them as the fourth member of Lagoon Company. The series spans 24 episodes that explore topics as Rock adjusting to his new occupation as pirate, character analysis' of the crew members like Revy, and some of the jobs they take on. The jobs range from helping the Russian Mafia and the Hong Kong Triad gain power in the town of Roanapur to salvaging a classic painting from a sunken sub while fighting off Neo-Nazis. For a series this short it's great that they most if not all episodes are quite enjoyable and have a lot of thought into them. The worst thing of this Blu-ray release really impressed me with the visuals because it made lines super smooth and it makes the colors pop. It brings out the beauty in some places like some of the islands of the south sea while it also brings some of the filth out in the dirty (both literally and metaphorically) city of Roanapur. The audio is quite impressive as well. The English track is presented through DTS-HD Master Audio while the Japanese voices are presented in Dolby TrueHD and both kick ass for making good use of surround sound. As I was watching this in my basement, I was quite impressed that an animated show was making the room sound like I was in the middle of the fight or in the bustling city. All in all, Black Lagoon is really a good collection. You have both seasons of what I consider the best anime of the 2000's on Blu-Ray and DVD in one convenient package. Anime will not appeal to everyone, I get that... but if you want to try something new than I can recommend you at least give it a second pass. If you're a fan of the show... do I even need to convince you, you owe it to yourself to pick it up.
