Loosely based on the novel from Isaac Asimov, I, ROBOT is an action-packed, CGI-laden thrill ride from director Alex Proyas (THE CROW). Set in 2035, Will Smith stars as Chicago law enforcer Detective Del Spooner. Called upon to investigate the mysterious suicide of scientist Dr. Alfred Lanning (James Cromwell), Spooner deduces that Lanning didn't kill himself but was, in fact, murdered. Lanning worked for the US Robotics headquarters, where he constructed friendly robots designed to help humans with mundane tasks. Lanning's creations are prevalent all over the city, and have been fully integrated into the culture. They are allegedly programmed not to harm humans, but as Spooner digs deeper, his investigations lead him to a new type of robot that Lanning was working on before his death, and one of these models--the highly charismatic Sonny--becomes the prime suspect in the case. Spooner bears a grudge against robots due to an unfortunate incident, so his case against Sonny is met with shrugs of indifference from colleagues who know his prejudices all too well. Fortunately he meets an ally, and a romantic interest, in Dr. Susan Calvin (Bridget Moynahan), who agrees to help him. As Sonny is cured of his violent tendencies, the other robots amass across the city, working on the assumption that they need to control humanity in order to safeguard its future.Director Proyas unleashes a fearsome arsenal of special effects, while Spooner and Calvin chase the errant robots all over the city. Sonny's facial features and voice are digitally manipulated from the actor Alan Tudyk, lending an unnerving element of humanity to the character. I Robot in 3D
This movie starring Will Smith is even more entertaining in 3D. Just more, not a WHOLE lot more. The depth of field in the conversion isn't up to AVATAR type standards, but it's still pretty good. Sound quality rocks your system just as the regular blu ray release does. If you are after more 3D content for your own system, consider picking it up if you can get it for 15 dollars or so. If you don't have it on blu ray at all, definitely get the 3D version. It's still one of Will Smith's better movies. Just wish 20th Century Fox had done Independence Day in 3D, but with interest waning in the mainstream for home 3D, we will probably never see that. Theater 3D still hangs on, but only for main tentpole releases. I still love home 3D though.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Great movie. Poor 3D conversion.
I love this movie, and the quality of the Blu-ray is fine. The only problem is that I was really looking forward seeing it in 3D. I'd previously watched the 3D Blu-ray conversion of the original Jurassic Park, and it was wonderful. But whoever converted I Robot to 3D really dropped the ball. It's obvious they didn't really care & just cranked it out. What a wasted opportunity. I'll still enjoy the 2D disc in this set, but won't be watching the 3D version again.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

I really like this movie, but the 3D conversion is the worst I've ever seen. At points in the movie the characters look like 3D cutouts in front of a 2D background. 3d Review
Fun movie with so-so 3d conversion (LG OLED65E6P). Still enjoyable to watch, but the 3d conversion here is pretty rough. Kind of shimmery and cutout-looking, definitely not up to the standards of later conversions. The 3d still adds to the film, and I would rather watch it in 3d than flat, but the conversion process got much better over time and this is an early attempt.
