They marketed this poorly, pitching it at vocalists rather than synth hardware players. I use it to record loops of pads, bass, vocal samples, then live mix them in out, all synced to my drum machine tr8. It's not well known but the 505 syncs to midi clock well as a slave (not master). It's awesome in a midi based hardware synth setup. You can select how long the loop records (loop length) in settings or do that manually, and it can quantise your record start stop hits (ie if your button press timing is a little off, it makes up for it when synced with midi clock). This aspect is great. It's not very good at quantising or time stretching synth pad loops, you can hear aliasing, but set it up to quantise only loop start stop points and you don't need loop stretching. Record your longest loop first, subsequent shorter loops are fine but it defaults to max loop length as your first loop. Footswitch option is handy but you'll still need your hands for most functions. I used footswitch do Record Start Stop. Faders are glorious for slow fades or slamming in/out. I only wish it had individual outs but you can copy your loops off it via USB transfer for mixing in your DAW. If your trying to get away from your laptop, like using hardware, understand basic midi clock and gain staging, and accept that hardware will never have the full functions of DAWs like Ableton, then this product could fit your needs. Otherwise stick with a Push. Ps if your a guitarist don't bother, you need your handsRead full review
