The build quality and components are very good. Wide range of adjustment on all controls. It works like the video shows. External power is needed for this model. The RCA type jack for power is a bit unusual. I think, because it has to be isolated from the case. The center is positive. I tried different power supplies and the analog type may be needed because the small switching power supplies have a high noise level when the microphone cable is connected to the radio. There is a 1/8" jack for a microphone using a 1/8" plug. One issue I found right away is the microphone cable is too short. I needs to be at least twice as long. It does not need to be up in front of the radio once it is set the way you want. It needs to be moved out of prime real estate. I made an 18" extension cable. The compression level light is really not needed. For my setup, if it is flashing, the level is too high. Over all I am happy with this purchase.Read full review

the radio suffered a drop somewhere along the shipping route with damage to one corner, no fault of Chris, but an hour of TLC had it sorted, works well making full output so the tubes survived the drop, item is as advertised, looks lovely on the desk next to my ts-990s, the search for a nice working 101E is over

The Sommerkamp FT-277 is a wonderful HF transceiver that has full output on all bands except the upper part of the 10 meter band. At this range it still has 95 watts! Wow, this rig has excellent sensitivity and selectivity. For a unit that is close to 40 years old, it rivals most of the modern day hf transceivers. This unit is very rare to see in units for sale in the world, much less in the U.S.! If you see one grab it as not many are for sale. The Sommerkamp FT-277 is the Yaesu FT-101 transciever that was sold in the Europe market. Wonderful unit indeed!
there are very few good used radios this is one of them !

Great old radio. Still working great after all these years, although I do plan to replace all the electrolytic capacitors soon. Yaesu makes great equipment.
