Why are replacements never as good?
The PF2 I inherited 20 years ago had started to turn on & off like it was on thermostat because the impeller seatings have worn. The PF2 was out of stock and so i looked at the spec for the PF1 to find that it will cope with my 2x1x1 foot tank. What a mistake. My unused PF2 carbon filters don’t fit the PF1 design, even when cut down to size, and the carbon filter provided has the plain filter stuck to it, so you have to throw away the carbon filter when to throw away the plain filter! The PF1 has no biomedia cage and the ceramic rings are in a mesh bag that takes up the space that the plain filter should occupy. So, if you have a tank of under 90 litres, I would buy the PF2, as at least it has ap roper biomedia cage above the filter holder, and then you’ll be able to fit separate carbon and plain filters, and change them at a different frequency.
