A clean winner, if you can control the fear.
I am reviewing this as a cleaner of high value copper items. My needs are the removal of grime, surface oxidation and blemishes caused by impurities in the metal. My fears are erosion of surface detail and scratching.
The product's powder form gave me anxiety and this worsened when I peeled back the top seal and beheld that classic "Vim" container array of sprinkle holes. Frankly, I would have stopped right then if a friend had not told me he swore by the product and had used it on copper pieces that needed major cleaning for many years.
I sprinkled a little on a saucer. dampened a cloth and gingerly rubbed the base of an item that had never been cleaned underneath. The transformation to bright, clean copper was almost immediate and the thick sticky residues I usually associate with cleaning were absent. A light rinse in running water left a clean, bright and unmarked surface, it was little short of amazing to me.
To underline my point, the cleaning of the untouched base revealed the copper beaters signature. I had bought the piece at auction as an unsigned example of his work. The product had cut through a century of grime which had hidden his name completely.
I then cleaned my whole collection at a speed and with an ease I would never have believed possible. My sole concern is the fact of how effective and easy it all was. I am of the generation that believes nothing comes without a price ! So, I've bought Renaissance Wax to protect the shine and keep me from too many returns to this amazingly effective product. I love and fear it in equal measure.
