A very consistent grind - I like a fine grind and this does a great job. And I like that it has a fairly large bin to hold the whole beans. Plus there's something about grinding coffee by hand. First of all, it's fresh ground - but it's more than that. It's almost spiritual. I'm personally involved with the cup of coffee I'm about to drink. That's why I like growing a vegetable garden. Sure, I can just go to the store, but my veggies taste better because they are: 1. fresh and 2. I grew them myself. If you are a gardener, you understand.

Hario normally does a great job with its various coffee related products, but this one misses the mark. The burr grinder is good, but the silicone bits don't fit that well (anti slip bottom and top hopper cover), the size of the grinder itself is too unwieldily to fit comfortably in many hand, (i'm only ok, but wife is a no go) and the grind container is glass. While this sounds nice, the glass adds a feeling of "fragility" to the grind experience. i'll just suck it up and continue to use it, but I'm of the opinion that they should have done a much better job on this one. C'mon Hario!

I bought this plus the French press adapter, in order to get a course or grind. It works just fine now that I got it installed, but getting it installed can be a bit tricky because the burrs must be centered and accessing the nuts and screws to adjust it is a pain. However, once that is done it is good. If you have arthritic hands thisprobably will not work for you. If you are bound and determined to have a conical burr grinder you're going to end up having to pay a lot of money for an electric one. Otherwise about 40 bucks for a cheaper flat burr grinder (which doesn't give as consistent a grind and is harder to clean.) If you are just going to use the grinder without the adapter, for a finer grind than french press, you'll probably be fine right out of the box.

Takes approx. 45 min. to grind 3 loads of beans. Grinds consistently and smoothly. Beans don't get stuck and hand mill doesn't create soreness due to repetitive spinning. Overall, consider this method part of a ritual. I'll be grinding beans once to get me through the week, not every morning which would take at least ten minutes each time for 4 Tbs of grounds. Beans and grounds are refrigerated in airtight containers and continue to stay relatively fresh so grinding a larger quantity of beans ahead works for me. The product is well made and a great price for the quality of end results.

I transitioned to this grinder after a cheaper tube-style mill (they're sold all over Amzn for like $12) fell apart in the grinding mechanism. This one is well worth the small increase in cost. The parts are fully metal from the arm down into the connection to the ceramic burr. This should make it much more robust. The glass grind catcher avoids static that can build up from the process. I've yet to need more than a small tap to get all the grounds cleanly out into my press. The grind size can be dialed down to very fine, adequate for espresso. I wouldn't know about Turkish, as I've never used that method, but heard it needs to be even finer. I'm guessing you could get there with this model, but it would take a lot of cranking to get enough grounds. I would not hesitate to buy another of these when/if this one wears out. The instructions mention that after a lot of use, the ceramic burr might become dull enough that you'd want to replace it.Read full review

I would buy this product again and again. I am able to set the grind fine-ness or coarse-ness with ease and I can grind as quickly or slowly as I want. This product is certainly worth more than the money you pay for it and I would recommend it to any person seriously considering searching for a higher quality daily cup of coffee. The first thing I do in the morning is turn on my espresso machine and grind enough beans with this grinder. It is the perfect way to start the day. Durable, well-performing, and versatile.

I bought it hoping it can grind coffee extremely fine for Turkish coffee so when it arrived I went and bought French roast coffee beans, set it to finest setting and started grinding, the grind was very fine like flower which is exactly how Turkish coffee is supposed to be! the grinder is very well made, I just had it for two days and love it. Its easy to clean & well designed. if it can grind Turkish it will grind any grind with ease since Turkish grind is much finer than expresso.

It's very well built This is a conical, ceramic burr grinder. It's a good brand. It does not produce evenly sized grounds. When you turn the handle, the burrs separate by raising and lowering slightly, causing the coffee grounds to come out in varying sizes. The grinding is easy and doesn't take much time, but if you're expecting fine espresso grind and expecting it to show up evenly, I'm not sure if a manual grinder is for you.

Pros: It doesn't take as long, or as much effort to grind coffee as I was expecting after reading reviews of manual coffee grinders of various types! But I think it's probably a pretty good workout if you want to build up your arms! It's easy and straightforward to adjust the size of the grinds. The consistency of the size of the grinds is pretty good, but probably still not as good as you get in commercially ground coffee. The Hario replaces a Braun electric blade grinder. The Hario does produce more consistent grinds than the blade grinder. Can't say I can really tell much of a difference in the taste of the coffee though! But the "dust" that was part of the Braun's output seemed to plug up our manual drip process causing delays in making the coffee. The Hario has eliminated this problem I usually grind enough to fill the container which will make several pots of coffee. This probably takes me 15 minutes or so, but I haven't really timed it. The grinder seems to be well made of good materials and likely to be quite durable. ***** We're real coffee addicts and normally have it 3 times a day, with each meal. Breakfast is @8 cups, and we normally make it with commercially ground coffee, but sometimes with coffee ground with the Hario. Lunch and dinner are usually 4-5 cups and lunch coffee is made using this Hario grinder. Dinner is often commercial (Folgers Simply Smooth) decaf, but occasionally Hario ground using some dark roasted beans. The dark roast and Simply Smooth are used to lessen the acid in the coffee we drink. The acid sometimes upsets my stomach. ***** Cons: Will require some dedication to do your own hand grinding. The nut holding the handle on tends to work loose after a few minutes of grinding and has to be retightened. Not a big deal, but I'm trying to find something to complain about. ***** I'm not aware of a better manual grinder, but if you are, please post the name!! For that reason, I'm giving the Hario 5 stars. It's not perfect, but until I find a better one, I think it deserves the top rating. I would recommend it to anyone.Read full review

Works great for a nice french press grind. Make sure to watch videos online on how to assemble, set up, and use before opening box, directions are poor and mostly in japanese. There is a small clear plastic washer that is easily lost. Love this grinder.
