I was using a TC Electronic Echobrain Analog delay for about a year now. It was cheap, useful, and alright for the time being. Then, I realized how limited that pedal was: there was no tap tempo, the length of the delay was short, and it was only one type of delay. I did some research on the Flashback and realized just how much it has to offer for about $100 or so used. I’m very pleased with the product. This is exactly what I was hoping for in a delay pedal. It’s the best pedal by far for the price I got it for. There’s the hidden tap tempo which is very useful, and the TonePrint will be fun to play around with. I found immediate use of switch for changing 1/4 notes to 1/8th notes, etc. All of the delays are usable, and I find it hard not to use this pedal for solos and clean riffs. For around $130 it’s hard to find a delay pedal that offers as much as the Flashback. For similar/ or superior features, you would probably end up spending over a few hundred dollars for something like a Memory Man (or something similar). I’ve always been a fan of TC Electronic. Their products are solid, innovative, and worth the price (I personally have 7 of their pedals and they work great). If your searching for something that is similar, try Electro-Harmonix; their products are similar in price, quality, and type. Read full review

Bought this pedal for a simple adjustable subtle slapback type delay since I don't use reverb, so I can't speak to the downloadable artist software simulations available. The level control is extremely sensitive (on this pedal anyway) when trying to dial in level & actually fluctuates noticeably at times while I'm playing. Don't know if the stage vibration is causing the level pot to move just enough to do this due to sensitivity, or if the pedal is defective. It is definitely noticeable enough to be a bit disconcerting so I've gone back to my carbon copy. Again, could just be this particular pedal. I did purchase this as 'open box' at a discount rate so who knows what happened to it after it left the box..

I love how flexible this delay pedal is, and how good it sounds. The tape and mod delays are my favorite. The flexibility of tone print is nice. Sometimes I wish there were more tone print slots, but I knew that going in, and was willing to sacrifice more tone print slots for more room on my pedalboard (as compared to the larger flashback X4). I'm also still getting used to the audio tap tempo. I know they didn't have the room for a tap tempo switch, but I think it would be a little nicer if TC added an external footswitch input for tap tempo. Overall great delay pedal though. The bang-for-buck value is great!

This little guy can do just about anything you want. There are so many Toneprint options to pick from not to mention the ability to create your own. The button and knob operations are smooth and quiet and having the ability to "tap" out your tempo is an excellent feature. I generally go for a more understated analog type delay and most of the options are not in that realm so they could definitely create a few more options like that. I was previously using a Modtone MiniMod analog delay which is a pretty simple delay - I havent found an existing Toneprint that is really close to that sound. The other thing is that beaming the Toneprints is no successful 100% of the time. I'm finding you need to have your volume and tone turned all the way up get make sure the beaming works.

The flashback delay is a "jack-of-all-trades" delay pedal. It does many different delay effects and it does them all well. It has your standard delay controls (time, feedback, mix) and effect type. It nails the 2290 digital delay (as it should) and the analog and tape delay emulations are very usable, if not quite as good as the real thing. The other settings I don't use as much but having them there is a plus. The looper on the pedal works, but there are much better ones out there. It would be fine for practice at home but I would not recommend for professional use; not a big deal though as I see it more of an extra feature anyway. Speaking of extra features, the flashback has many. This is a 'tone print' pedal, which means you can find or create a setting using the tone print apps and flash it to your guitar with your smart phone. That's right, I said FLASH... WITH YOUR SMART PHONE! You literally select the effect your want, hold the phone up to your guitar pickup (guitar connected to pedal) hit send and it uploads to the pedal. Pretty freakin' sweet if you ask me. I have a nice John Petrucci created delay installed right now. Another cool feature is the tap control. While most delay pedals I've seen with this feature use a tap button, this one you actually press and hold the effect button, strum the beat you want and release. BAM, delay time set. Very Convenient. Final feature I'll get into is the time control switch. This 3 pos switch at the top of the pedal allows you to switch between quarter note, dotted eighth and quarter plus dotted eighth. It is much more convenient than trying to dial in those tricky tones with the delay knob. Overall, lots of effects and lots of features, combined with analog pass through and true bypass make this a top of the line pedal. 5 stars.Read full review
