With the speakers supplied with the product, bass is definitely lacking, and they also sound rather boxy and too highly accentuated treble. Not unusual for these small systems, and I have listened to a much more expensive system that was not really any better. However, I bought this to replace my old JVC system from the 1990s, which had rather better speakers, so I am using it with those, and it is much better; smoother, well defined treble and mid ranges, but using the Equalizer settings, still lacking bass. I found that if you ignore the Eq settings, and set the bass manually to +5 and treble to -1, the sound is much, much better. Hifi it isn't, but it is very adequate quality for general listening. I listen to classical music and it copes pretty well if set as I describe. The overall quality seems good; it is very easy to use, with simple controls on both remote and front panel. You can't access everything from the remote, but so what? The things that require use of the front panel controls aren't used frequently, like tone control settings. Given the price, I think it is a good buy. If you want serious hifi, pay a lot more, and buy separates. But if you want a small system for casual listening this has to be a very good choice.Read full review

The JVC UX-D100 is an attractive HiFi in many ways. Sleek looks coupled with a compact size and ease of use make it ideal for any home where space is at a premium. The valve amplifier creates a lovely warm sound but the few seconds "warm up" time is a little disconcerting at first. However the quality of the sound more than compensates. The DAB/FM tuner is very effective and picked up a huge number of stations on the small supplied aerial which my other HiFi requires an external mast to achieve. An ex-display item, this cost me only a third of the new price in Currys, a quality bargain.

The Valve sound is very good genuine HiFi ,warm and realistic ,unlike modern Silicon Transistor radiios with the CD and USB mode very intuitive and easy to use . unfortunatelty the remote and DAB programming is a nightmare and not very ease to use ,unlike thier earlier products if they sorted that out it would be fabulous product

Having read reviews about this JVC Hi-Fi I was a bit sceptical about hearing "A warm rich sound". First things first, the putting together and setting up, it was simple. 10 minutes and your ready to hear if that hype is true or not. Well it's true all right. Sure if you spend a few hundred pounds more, buy an expensive pair of speakers you will get a better sound. But for a Hi-Fi for Mr/Mrs Average this is well worth the money, and if I'm honest a bit more. The remote control is uncluttered, simple to use and you get the sound that suits you most, the DAB radio has picked more stations than my old Pure system did, haven't tried the CD yet but I'm sure I won't be disappointed. Only draw back, if you can call it that, and I am nit picking here, is the length, at just under 30cm it can poke out from the shelf a bit, if that's not an issue for you then spend just over £100 and sit there with a smile on your face, enjoy the "Rich sound" coming from your small system in the knowledge you have just saved yourself a load of money. Ps, you may have guessed, I do recommend!Read full review

Machine has a pretty awful DAB tuner, which was what I bought it for, loses channels constantly, then reverts to first alphabetical signal (aftermarket ariel and good reception), forgets presets overnight , and has a display from the1970's. Sent it back.
