Center pin is not connected.
The adapter does convert the a 7.4mmx5.0mm to a 4.5mmx3.0mm laptop-type DC connector, and it does pass through the DC voltage correctly. It also looks well built. But: the center pin of the connectors is not connected! The center pin connection is important as it is the data connection between charger and laptop, which tells the laptop that the "right" charger is connected. The product is labelled as being compatible for Dell, but because of the missing center pin connection, the power supply is not recognized by the Dell Laptop. The laptop runs at lowest CPU frequency (very slow) and the battery doesn't charge. Essentially, it is an adapter between a 3-pin connector and another 3-pin connector, but only 2 pins are actually connected. To exclude that it is a charger problem, I measured the resistance of the center pin on the two ends with a multimeter - it is actually disconnected. I hope the manufacturer addresses that issue in future; without the center pin connection, it is not really useful for me.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Seemed ok but didn't work for me
Purchased to allow the use of older (large plug) genuine Dell power adaptors with newer (small socket) Dell laptops (also 19V). Two purchased, one for (genuine Dell) mains power supply and one for (genuine Dell) in car charger. Both power supplies work done with old laptop, but in both cases the new laptop using these adaptors recognises that there is something plugged in, but will not charge. Cheap enough to experiment with, but if you want to give it a try I'd recommend buying one to try before committing to multiples...Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Very useful adaptor
Had several of the old style HP power supplies but needed the new smaller blue plug power supply, found this adaptor, ordered it and it works perfectly, don't worry about ordering stuff from China, everything is made there anyway and it always arrives reasonably quicklyVerified purchase: YesCondition: New
