I got this unit as an access point for my home to solve a Wi-Fi issue. As I had Ethernet access in the problem area and I already have a ASUS 87 router, I knew the web based software to control the unit was one of the best.
There were numerous YouTube videos on how to set up this router as an access point and had the unit running in less than 30 mins. It has not changed the speed of the Ethernet point in the problem area and the Wi-Fi is from this router/modem is perfect.
As the control software on ASUS modem/router are comprehensive and easy to understand, and there are plenty of YouTube videos by ASUS and others it is a good choice for both experienced and new users. The unit has not fallen over in the last 4 weeks and restarted after a power failure without any problems.
ASUS make some very good stuff, and their mid range and top end router/modems should be on your shopping list.
I look after the installation and maintenance of modem/routers in an over 50's village with over 300 residents.. The N55U is an excellent product, the dual band capability provides the ability to share the WiFi load over various WiFi capable units, the 2.4 band is great for mobile units e.g. Laptops, Tablets, phones, the 5.00 band is great for static units e.g. Smart TV's it is great for streaming devices and improves the reception for Netflix, Stan, Prime etc
I have used the N55U to replace older single band routers and have seen vast improvements in the download speed.
I highly recommend the ASUS N55u modem/routers
Changed my cheap and nasty modem from the NBN provider for this device, and it seems to have made a lot of difference. Wi-Fi coverage and speed improved and drop-outs and hangings stopped. Having said that, the provider told me that ASUS modems have some incompatibility with NBN which results in the NBN port hanging. According to them, if that happens, you need to call them or turn the modem of for 30 min. That happened to me twice in about a month. Still much better than with the old modem.
